"I'm so excited to tell my parents. They're gonna be thrilled! They were so excited when I was pregnant last time," Haylee smiled at Jonah as she set up the Skype call.
"I know," Jonah kissed her cheek, "it's special when there's a grand baby on the way. My parents were so excited when Megan was pregnant."
"I'm sure they were. First grand baby Nado," she rubbed his cheek before hitting call.
"Hello!" Ashlyn and Tyler popped up on the screen.
"Hi, Mom! Hi, Daddy!"
"Hey, Hayls! How are you?" He smiled.
"Good! Well, Jonah and I have some news for you," she smiled looking at her boyfriend.
"Are you engaged?" Ashlyn raised an eyebrow.
"No, but it's just as exciting. We're expecting," Jonah grinned and took her hand before wrapping it around her shoulder.
He kissed her forehead and squeezed her hand. That's when she noticed a lack of noise coming from the other line. She looked at her parents and saw them sitting there slack jawed. They were so still Haylee thought maybe they were frozen. She looked up at Jonah and then began clicking around.
"Mom? Dad?" She asked.
"Y-you're pregnant?!" Ashlyn stuttered.
"Yeah!" She smiled.
"This is all his fault!" She burst out pointing at Jonah.
"Wh-what? Mom!" Haylee's eyes widened.
"I knew this relationship was a bad idea!" She continued, "he had been in love with you for years and finally had the guts to tell you that, and your life has been a mess ever since!"
"M-"
"Your mother is right. This is crazy," Tyler shook his head, "you hadn't even been dating a month when you decided to take a job in San Francisco. You moved in together after what three months?"
"And now you're pregnant! Haylee, you haven't even been dating him for a year yet! He's dragging you through this relationship too fast!" Ashlyn added as tears streamed down Haylee's cheeks.
"Stop talking about Jonah like he isn't here!" Haylee begged. Jonah wrapped both of his arms around Haylee and kissed her cheek.
"He got you pregnant so that you can't leave him! He's trying to trap you in this relationship that isn't good for you, Haylee!" Tyler agreed.
"Mom! Dad! Stop!" Haylee cried, "please stop! I love Jonah! And it takes t-two to make a b-baby! I-I thought you were going to be happy for us!"
"This is just too much too fast, Haylee Katherine," Ashlyn said unsympathetically.
"You're upsetting her! Can't you see how upset she is about your reaction?" Jonah demanded as Haylee turned and sobbed into his chest.
Haylee covered her ears as Jonah tried to defend himself against her furious parents. It was no use. They had their opinions that weren't going to change no matter Jonah said. It tore her apart that her parents weren't excited that she was pregnant, but what really broke her heart was the fact that they didn't like Jonah.
How could they suddenly turn against him? They had known him since he was a teenager. They considered him a second son. They loved all the Arenado boys, but they had a special soft spot for Jonah. He had always been there for Haylee. He stepped up and took her to prom when her date bailed on her last minute. He had been there at the first Rapids game she worked as the host. He had been there when she was in the hospital miscarrying. He had been there to help pick up the pieces of her divorce. It was so confusing to her. Haylee could hear Jonah's heart racing. She could tell that beneath all his anger, he was incredibly sad.
