lex clung onto mike as soon as he had come back from missouri, her hands groping and trying to hold him ever so closely to her body.
the man looked at his girlfriend, but held her closely to him, "what's this all about?" he asked, as lex looked at him with tears brimming her eyes as looked at mike before hugging him again.
but he knew what it was all about. they were days out quentin's passing. things going back to normal but the people who knew quentin were refusing to realize that he was no longer with them anymore. sophia was copping as much as she could. but she wouldn't lie that there wasn't a single day that passed where she didn't cry for hours on end. watched all their videos together. all their pictures and reread every single love note and message they had ever sent to each other.
"i can't afford to lose you too." lex finally confessed as tears were falling from her face remembering quentin's memorial at ucla. everyone had come out and released balloons. there was a candle vigil at his house where he had grown up and everyone you could possibly think of was at his funeral. telling stories of him. remembering him and loving him. there was laughter and there were tears but most of all, quentin was said goodbye to by the people he had touched and the people that loved him. sophia couldn't handle it. who could blame her? all she knew was quentin. she had been with him since they were 15 and she had planned her whole life with him. now she had to teach herself how to live without him. while raising a child. sophia had found she was pregnant days after his passing.
"i can't lose you too, tikey." she cried as mike held her closer to him.
"i'm right here." he whispered as he rocked them back and forth. the news that quentin wilson had passed away hit the world unexpectedly. it hit the people around him harder. he was such a high recruited prospect and the sports world was ready to see him become one of the best quarterbacks in ages. he couldn't bring himself to ask anymore questions as they stood their still, rocking back and forth. mike couldn't fathom the thought of losing one of his siblings. mike finally scooped her up, kissing her forehead as they went upstairs and lex felt her warm tears wet her cheeks as she shoved her face into his chest. laying her down, mike laid next to her, as he pulled her close to him, reassuring her that he was there: emotionally and physically, "sophia watched him die. she watched him get shot. she watched the love of her life die and she couldn't do anything to help." lex whispered as she felt mike draw circles on her back, "she held him while he was dying. while jalen tried to take him to the hospital to save his life."
mike didn't know quentin personally. sure he had conversations with him but he wasn't his friend. but seeing how shaken up lex had been with the sudden loss of her friend made him ache. he couldn't imagine the pain. the way sophia felt. the way his little brother had to carry on with his life knowing his brother died saving his life and the fact that their parents had to bury their twenty year old son.
everyone around them knew sophia and quentin were endgame. they had been together for years. they were suppose to be this fairly tale couple. the ones that grow up together as friends. fall in love and tell their grandchildren. they were suppose to be everything and all, "quentin always talked about sophia like she was the stars the moon and his galaxy," lex knew it. he told her and she saw it, "they were each other's first love and only love."
lex didn't want to think of a life without michael in it. she didn't want to be in a world without him in it. michael didn't want to wake up one day with the news that she wasn't here anymore to love him anymore the way she knew best and the way that made him feel like he was the luckiest man in the world, "i don't want to be in a world without you." michael finally confessed, as tears brimmed his eyes and his lips met the top of her head.
"i can't imagine going to bed thinking everything is going to be okay." lex spoke after a few moments, "sophias pregnant." lex finally told mike, "and their son or daughter won't ever meet him because someone was jealous of the success and talent they were gifted and took quentin away."
