Vanessa POV

Sunday flew by and soon it was the dreadful Monday. It took me about an hour just to find an outfit to wear leaving me half an hour to finish my morning routine. After I finished everything I yelled goodbye to my mom and went outside to find Matt. Like every other day he sat leaned up against my mailbox with headphones in. I did have my penny board cause, well you know why. So, I had to walk to school.

"Good morning!" he said all cheery.

"Good morning, Espinosa..." I said rolling my eyes. He ran his fingers through his hair and turned on his heels.

"How was your weekend?" He said raising his eyebrows, giving me a look I didn't fully understand.

"It, was good.." I blushed thinking about the other night. He smiled and slipped his hand into mine. I didn't refuse.

Once we arrived at school, Matt and I had to split up because of our class schedule. I had noticed that all my friends were avoiding me even Gilinsky. At lunch I went to find Matt. He was sitting alone at a lunch table reading 'The Fault In Our Stars'. I thought it was adorable, but he got upset when I made cute comments about it.

"Hey..." he said without looking up from the book.

"Hey..."

"What do have for lunch today? I forgotten at home..." he said still keeping his eyes on the page. I decided I wanted to play a little trick on him.

"You know Hazel dies... Right?" I said tossing my lunch at him. He slams the book shut.

"Dammit! You ruined the book!" he cried on the verge of tears.

"I'm just messing with you!" I said laughing at myself. Matt hit me with the book and dug around in my lunch box. I looked up and Gilinsky and Johnson sat down at our table.

"Hey, Vanessa," Gilinsky said. He smiled at me, but it was fake. Johnson sat there being the ass he was.

"Why'd ya stand me up Friday?" He said being a douche.

"She had better things to do than be with you!" Matt said wrapping his arm around me placing a kiss on my face.

"Thank for the support Matt, but he wasn't the one stood up..." I said looking away.

"I saw you at the restaurant downtown with a brunette..." I said now facing Johnson. Gilinsky face dropped.

"Oh... Vanessa I'm so sorry... I di-" he stuttered as I cut him off.

"You no what stop!" I said yelling and attracting attention. Johnson had already left the table and Matt's arm remained around me shoulder.

"I fall for you, and get hurt every time! Im tired of it!" I said starting to cry. I could see the pain I was causing him.

"We need to take a break..." I said whispering. Tears were now streaming down both of our faces. I got up and left the table. I walked into the girls bathroom and sat in a stall and cried. I hadn't cared if I was going to miss class. I just wanted to go home.
