Nahikari's POV:
When the game ended, Utah sadly lost. Vero and I headed out.
"Hey." That girl Alex ran over. "Um. How long are you in America for?"
"You speak Spanish?"
"Not as much as I'd like." She looked down. "I know enough."
"I'm here for a few more days."
"Want to get together?" I looked at Vero. "Or not that's fine. You have better things do to. I'm sorry, I'll leave."
"No." I grabbed her arm. "Sure." I nodded. "We can."
She gave me her number and then left.
"What about Virginia?" Vero asked.
"Nothing is ever going to happen between me and Virginia." I said. "I need to accept that. We're too different. I mean, when I went to talk to her after the game. Her offside goal? She didn't even acknowledge that I jumped on her back. She doesn't like me."
"If you say so. Just be careful, ok?"
Alexandra's POV:
I stood outside the hotel and waited. Nahikari walked outside. "Hello." She smiled.
"Hi." I opened the car door for her. "So I'm new to this area." I laughed. "My roommates are out for the night, I thought I'd cook."
"Ok." She nodded.
We got back to the apartment and I cooked for us. As we ate we just talked. "Where are you from?" She asked.
"Boston." I said. "My mom was born there and my dad moved after he came to America."
"Where was he from?"
"He was born in Mexico. Came here when he was 15."
"Is your mother Mexican too?"
I nodded. "She was born here though. Her older brother and her parents were born in Mexico, she was born a few years after they came here. What about you?"
"Spain." She said. "I'm just here visiting Vero. After the World Cup I went to see my family and then really wanted to see Vero. I needed to see her."
"Everything ok?"
"It will be." She smiled. "Why are you in New Jersey?"
"I got drafted by the hockey team here." I said. "I was hoping I'd get picked by Boston so I could stay near my sister but the Riveters wanted me."
"How old is your sister?"
"Same age as me. We're twins, I'm 15 minutes older."
"Is it just the two of you?" I nodded. "Must've been fun to have that?"
I smiled. "It was fun. She's my best friend. I'm hers."
"Your parents must be proud of you? Professional athlete." She took a sip of her water.
"I like to think so." I looked down.
We finished eating and I cleaned up. I went back to the couch and she was on her phone. "So who is she?"
"Hmm?" She looked up.
"Who is she?" I smirked.
"Who?"
"The girl you're stalking on Instagram."
She looked down. "Her name is Virginia." She looked up. "She's a teammate of mine on the national team."
"And you have a crush on her?" I smiled.
"It's complicated."
"Uncomplicate it then." She laughed. "You like her, so go for it?"
"You asked me to hang out, cooked me dinner and now you're pushing me to ask out another girl?"
"Look, I know there's someone out there for me. I'll find her eventually. But I love helping people get their heads out of their asses and get together."
"I'm not the one who needs that." She told me everything. "I can't like Virginia. She's in Ibiza right now, partying and after the world cup, I wanted to relax, read a book maybe see a few friends. We're so different it'd never work out."
"Want to know what I think?"
"I feel like you're going to tell me anyway."
I laughed. "I am." She shook her head. "I think that we were supposed to meet. You said you came to America because you needed to see a friend. While with Vero, we meet and now here we are. I think I'm the friend you needed to see! I'm the friend that's going to help you get Virginia!"
"You're cupid?"
"I'm your wing woman! The Spaniard and the Mexican! All of my friends are in happy and healthy relationships. I have a 100% success rate. Tell me everything about Virginia."
Nahikari's POV:
After talking with Alex, it was nice to have a friend involved who didn't know Virginia. A clean perspective. Of course, Vero is going to push me, she knows me and Virginia.
Anyone else I talk to knows enough about Vir to make a decision.
Alex has a fresh mind. My time in America came to a close. Vero was back in Utah and Alex drove me to the airport.
"Whatsapp." She smiled. "I want updates on you and Virginia. Also, I want an invite to that wedding."
I laughed. "There won't be a wedding."
"Not with that attitude!" I laughed more. "I am a believer in everything happening for a reason. We were meant to meet." She nodded. "There are things both of us need a friend to get through. You needed a new friend, so did I."
"What are you going through that you need a friend?" She looked out the window. "Alex?"
"You're going to miss your flight." She looked at me.
I sighed and nodded. "Remind me when your season starts, so I can cheer you on." I said.
"Same here, captain." She smirked.
"Good one." I got out of the car and headed into the airport.
We did meet for a reason.
Hopefully, we'll both get the help and friendship we need.
Did you really think there was going to be a relationship between Nahikari and Virginia?
I would never...
Never...
