Mariana's POV

I found myself alone in the Shelby house, which was extremely rare considering how big the family was
Polly had left not too long ago to try and knock some sense into Ada, Nala and Finn had ran off down to the canal to play.

John was too busy fucking his new wife and Arthur was entertaining his father for the day
Why he even gave him the time of day I'll never know, all he is gonna do is let him down again.

Tommy had left to the Garrison hours ago, something about meeting with an IRA member, it didn't interest me so I stayed at the house, trying to get through some paperwork.

It was actually quite peaceful until John came bursting through the door with Esmé following closely behind, their hair messy and clothes crumpled.

"Alright Mar?" John asked, sitting down across from me and peaking through my pile of papers
I snatched them off him and placed them back on the table
"Mhm, hows married life treating you?" I asked.

John chuckled and Esmé looked down, a slight blush coating her face
"Me balls feel shrivelled" John laughed out, earning a smack on the arm from Esmé
I smiled at them and went back to my stack of papers.

"Where the fuck is everyone?" John asked after a moment, so much for peaceful.
"Out"
"Where?" He asked
"I'm not their mother John" I countered, uninterested in the conversation
"Yeah yeah alright" he dismissed.

They sat distracting me from my paperwork for another hour before Arthur came through the door
"Well look who it is... I thought you'd still be following around after dad like a lost puppy" John laughed
He sat down with a grunt and took John's drink, downing it in one.
"Fuck off" he said, seemingly pissed off

"Did dear old daddy not give you any attention?" I teased, he pushed back from the table harshly and stormed off into the betting den.
Well alright then.

It was another few hours until Polly came home, stumbling over her words with worry covering her face
It was nearly dark out now and she looked frantic
"Coppers... coppers they- they're in the street they..." she threw her bag and hat down on the table, looking out the window through a gap in the curtains.

"Pol? What's going on?" I asked, moving to the window as well, peaking out to see coppers swarming the street
"What are they doing?" I asked, looking to Pol for answers.

"They're looking for Tommy, they found the guns... it was that barmaid I know it was, th-they found the guns and now he's out there and I don't know if he knows I-" I grabbed her shoulders and made her look at me, cutting her off from her rambling.
