Mariana's POV

"Bit early to be drinking ain't it?" I asked amused, watching as he just stared ahead of him. Blankly.

"Tommy?" I asked, he looked at me abruptly
"What?" He asked
"Are you okay?" I asked hesitantly, he nodded, seemingly thinking as he looked around
"Why wouldn't I be, Changretta's dead" he answered, taking a breath.

"And not by my hand" he added, but he was clearly bitter, offering me the bottle
I took it with my right hand, taking a swig before passing it back
"No... by yours and Arthur's" he scoffed
"Teamwork eh?" He toasted with the bottle in the air.

"It weren't like that, you shouldn't have to bear the burden of his death, not when you're already bearing Grace's" I told him softly
He hung his head, the moment being filled with a pregnant silence.

"Burden eh? How come Arthur's got it good then? Mm? How come he's the one with blood on his hands... yet he's expecting a baby, and I'm still having nightmares" he explained
"Nightmares?" I echoed
"Mm... I see her, I see her everywhere" he mumbled.

"That's natural Tommy, Pol sees people sometimes. It's in your blood" I explained matter of factly
He chuckled
"Blood. No one knows the meaning of the word anymore" he muttered.

"Tomm-"
"Do you regret it?" He asked
"What?" I asked back, unsure of what he was talking about
"The derby... do you regret not saying yes?" He asked. Not this again.

I looked down, no. I didn't regret it.
I don't regret it. I love Alfie
I'll always love Alfie. He's my one.
Tommy's just overthinking. That's what grief does to you I guess. Grace was his one. Deep down he knows that. Otherwise he wouldn't keep seeing her.

"It doesn't matter now does it?" I said calmly, the sky gradually getting darker above us
"That's not an answer" he said, exhaling smoke above him
"No. I don't regret it. I don't even think about it anymore. I'm happy" I said.

He scoffed
"No ones happy. Not really" he said
"You were happy with Grace" I said
"Mm... and your happy with him" he stated, I nodded
"I uh- we're getting married" I said, my eyes ahead, scared of his reaction.

I wasn't expecting him to be happy for me. He was never happy for anyone
What worried me was the possibility of the news triggering him.
The last wedding we all had was his and Grace's... and look how that turned out.

It was silent for a long time, the only sound was the birds around us and his intake of smoke.
"Married... to him?" He asked, I could see him looking at me from the corner of my eye
I nodded
"Okay" he said simply.
