It hit me out of nowhere, almost two months. I just stood still, staring at the lock screen of my phone like it had betrayed me. How did time slip by so fast? Life's been moving in this weird blur, and I keep telling myself I'll slow down, I'll reach out, I'll make time... but somehow, it just keeps running ahead of me.
I advised them to make it more classy and modernized.
I invited everyone for dinner.
We haven't spoken with each other for almost a month. I'd like to think that she's just busy minding her business and nothing's actually going on between the two of us.
Ako
Hi, I'm eating with the team later. Sa Makati lang.
Ako
Good afternoon, makakahabol ka ba?
It's been almost a month, and Janine still hasn't reached out. I keep telling myself not to overthink it, that people get busy, that maybe it doesn't mean anything, but deep down, I feel this slow and steady ache I can't quite explain.
Ako
May problema ka ba?
Ako
O tayo?
Am I hurt? Am I mad? Or just... confused? Because part of me wants to believe she still thinks about me, and the other part is starting to wonder if maybe she doesn't. She seem like a playgirl who would heartlessly play with people's feelings.
I put light makeup on and picked a dress that would match my heels. Nagkausap kasi kami ni Tiffany na magkikita after dinner.
With my heart racing fast, for reasons that I'm not even sure of, I picked up my phone to read the notification.
It was from Engineer Mark.
Disappointed, I wrote a reply.
Hindi nga yata siya pupunta.
Architect Marie, with her four year old son, Engineer Mark, some from their team, and me. Walo kami na nakapalibot sa mahabang mesa. Medyo marami kami ngayon na ipinareserve ko last week.
"Did you know?"
"Alin?" Tanong ko pabalik.
"Miss Janine was with the same girl that keeps on going back to her office. Apat na sunod na araw na." Mark continued eating after saying those words.
"It was Stella Evans. Photographer yon. Nandon kanina si Danica Salvador, yung showbiz news anchor."
"Pero... yung Stella lang ang pabalik balik?" I asked. Totally drawn to the topic.
Kaya pala walang paramdam... marahan akong napaisip doon. If she's actually busy out and about, bakit hindi niya ako sinabihan?
And I'm suddenly back to square one. Why does she have to tell me things? Why do I have to know what's going on with her life?
