Don't worry about the chapter name, it's not smut lol. Also, I'm realizing how much my writing has both improved and degraded in the past almost two years, and wow. It's crazy.

I hadn't realized that I was asleep until I woke up. I hated it when that happened. One second, I'm fine, and the next, I'm waking up feeling like someone beat the shit out of me with a bat covered in razor blades before leaving me out in the sun to rot like dog shit left on the pavement on a hot summer's day.

My eyes opened begrudgingly as I attempted to take in my surroundings, but it hurt to keep them open. They felt so dry and painful. I closed them again as I tried to force my groggy brain to wake up and help me out. It didn't take long for it to happen, but it felt like ages before I was able to fully comprehend everything.

I had my head resting in Dave's lap and at first I thought he was asleep. However, the more I paid attention, the more things I noticed. His breathing was too shallow for him to be asleep and his hands would sometimes lazily stroke my hair or rub at the tips of my ears gingerly. I started to purr quietly as I got closer, turning my head slightly so I could look up at him through the tiny crack in my eyelids.

He was looking up at the ceiling, so I could only admire the flawless jawline that this stupid baby-faced asshole had. I noticed that he had some earbuds in and if I perked my ears up and listened closely, I could hear some of what he was listening to. I was a bit too lazy for that though, so I just relaxed and enjoyed the small touches I would get from him.

At this point, he undoubtedly knew I was awake, but he didn't do anything until I got up to use the bathroom. He glanced over at me and nodded in my direction, causing me to wave awkwardly simply because I wasn't expecting it. I felt like garbage, so I splashed water on my face and brushed my teeth, hoping it would help. It kind of did. Not very much.

Walking out of the bathroom, I sat on my knees next to Dave and let my head flop onto his shoulder. He took his phone out of his pocket and shut off the music, allowing me to glance at the time. It was about 7:30pm. I had slept for five hours??? Damn.

"What's up, Sunshine?" I rolled my eyes at what he said, but didn't move from his shoulder. If anything, I actually cuddled closer to him.

"nothing. i'm just... sitting here. you?" he kissed the top of my head and shook his own as he nuzzled into my hair, causing it to frizz up more.

"Nothing's going on with me, cutie. Just been enjoying the view."

"what's so special about the ceiling?" it took me a second to realize what he meant and honestly, I didn't really mind in the slightest. Hopefully, he took it as sarcasm and not me being genuinely stupid.

All he did was chuckle and wrap his arms around me, giving my forehead a gentle kiss. I relaxed into his arms for a moment before hearing Kankri at the door.

"Hell9 y9u tw9, I'm just here t9 inf9rm y9u that dinner is ready. Please feel free t9 c9me d9wmstairs and eat at y9ur 9wn leisure, 6ut please d9n't wait until it gets c9ld. Thank y9u," and with that, he left.

I sighed softly and grabbed onto Dave's hands, squeezing, "you hungry?"

He shrugged a bit, "Not really, but I won't say no, I guess."

Getting up, I nodded and pulled Dave up with me, leading him downstairs. My hand squeezed his fingers tightly as we walked down the hallway and to the dining area. I could feel him weakly squeeze back as we kept moving. My mind wandered as we sat down at the table and I kept his hand in my lap, wanting to keep it near me.
