What Is He?

                              Kara's POV
I was currently sitting in the infirmary at the DEO. One of their medicine specialists were checking my vitals on their device. A few taps later I hear a beep. "Well, Ms. Zor-El, you seem to be fine, you just needed some time under the sun lamp. Rest for a few more hours and you should be fine. And also, take it easy for a couple of weeks. You seem to have exerted yourself." I gave her a curt, yet polite nod and smiled. "Will do, Doc. Thanks again!" She gave me a smile and left. As she did, Alex came in. "You did well, but, you could've done better." I rolled my eyes at the backhanded compliment. "Gee, thanks sis. If I didn't know any better, I'd almost think that was a compliment. I mean, really, Al? No 'how are you?' No 'glad you're not dead!'?"

She didn't respond and instead strutted over to one of the machines behind me. "Why in the hell was (Y/n) there? And what was going on with him? Is he not...human? Because last time I checked, humans didn't light up like glow sticks...at least not without some seriously heavy alien-like drug consumption. And when did he get tattoos?" She was asking questions that I had as well. I don't know what happened. One moment I was getting pummeled, and the next, (Y/n)'s there. And don't forget to mention he was all lit up and crap. "I....I don't know, Alex. Your guess is as good as mine. What did you guys do with him anyway? The last thing I saw before passing out was him hitting the ground. Surely you didn't leave him there?" She sighed before responding with an exasperated tone. "No, Kara, we didn't leave him there. We brought him here." YoU WhAT?! "You what!? How is he? Is he okay?!"

"Kara, he's fine. He's just..." She didn't finish. Why didn't she finish? "Alex...what aren't you telling me? Is he alright? He's not gonna...." I couldn't bring myself to finish my question. Just thinking about the possibility that (Y/n) might die from protecting me, made my gut twist excruciatingly. I wanted to cry. Tears pricked my eyes and threatened to fall. "God, no! Kara, he's alive. His condition is just unstable. We....we don't exactly know what's wrong with him. I mean, how could we? We don't even know what he is."

The way she said that made me look at her incredulously. "Woah, Alex! Don't say that!" She threw her arms out. "Well, we don't! I'm not wrong!" I rolled my eyes. "Whatever. Can you just take me to him? Please?" Her expression softened. "Sure, Kar. C'mon." We made our way through a few hallways. We went this way and that before coming to a room a lot similar to the one I was in. We entered the room, and I immediately saw (Y/n), laying on a bed with a whole mess of tubes and wires in him.

The room was unnaturally cold. It was odd that I could feel it myself. With me being a kryptonian, I can't normally feel temperature. "Uh, Alex? It's cold in here. Very cold. Why can I feel it?" She was inspecting both (Y/n) and the machines he was hooked up to. When I spoke she faced me fully, eyes wide. "You can feel it? That's odd. You don't normally feel temperature....but as for your first question: I don't know. The rooms been like this since we brought him in." So...(Y/n) is the reason this room is so cold? I walk up to him. (Y/n), can you hear me? It's Kara." No response. I laid my hand on his forearm. His skin felt heated, like a fever. "Alex? Have you...felt him? He's warm to the touch. Could he be sick? Does he have a fever somehow?"

She walked around to the opposite end of the gurney. "I have...but I'm not sure what's wrong with him." I began to wonder more. A question popped up. "How is it that he's so warm, but he's making the room cold?"*pause* "Wait a minute, look here!"  I leaned closer to see that his lips were slightly parted. But that wasn't all I noticed. I also noticed that with each exhale, I could see it. Like he was...breathing frost itself. It was as if he was standing out in the cold, and breathing warm air. Except he wasn't.
