Asshole Of The Year Goes To...

                            (Y/n)'s POV
As we were walking back to Cat Co., I got a call on my phone. It was Mark. I picked it up.

Me: Hey man! What's shaking?
Mark: Nothing much just checking in on you
Me: Aww aren't you sweet? I'm good. You?
Mark: That's what I called about.
Me: Go on...
Mark: Me and the boys are going out of town
Me: That's great!! Where y'all headed?
Mark: Jack is having us...visit his folks
Me: Ireland? That's far...
Mark: Yeah...
Me: For how long?
Mark: Y'know uhhh
'He's hiding something.'
Me: Mark? What's wrong? You good, man?
Mark: We're moving permanently
Me: Say what?
Mark: Yeah. With all the aliens running amok
I pulled the phone away from my ear.
Me: Excuse me?
Mark: You're telling me that it doesn't bother you that these...freaks are having free reign?
'Oh, you've got to be fucking kidding me.'
'Boy. Temper.'
'Fuck my temper! He's being an ass!'
'Keep your cool, for Ymir's sake!'
'What. Ever.'
Me: Are you serious? What makes them freaks?
Mark: They're from another planet, duh!
Me: So are we.
I was fighting to keep myself calm
Me: Y'know if I would've known that you were such a....closed minded asshole, I wouldn't have befriended you.
Mark: Woah, man! Don't take offense! It's not like you're one of them!
'(Y/n), don't do it. I know exactly what you're thinking.'
'To Hel with this guy!'
Me: And what if I was?
Mark: You're kidding? Is this some type of sick joke?
Me: You wanna test that, you racist fuck?
Mark: Whatever man. Screw you.

The call ended

"Good riddance, fucking...bigot." Kara looked at me worriedly. "(Y/n)? Who was that?" I shook my head. "It was Mark. He called to tell me that him and the rest of his guy pals are moving out of the country. Said some racist shit about aliens. Fuck him." I put my phone back in my pocket. What an ass! 'Uhm, (Y/n)? Take it easy, alright? It's over. Don't dwell on it.' 'What the fuck ever. That was really fucked up. I mean, seriously! The fucking nerve of some people, dude.' "I know how you feel. To hear people talk that way. But you have to realize that they haven't been through the things we have. They don't understand. This is one of those battles that will always rage on."

We cut the convo short as we got back to Cat Co. We took the elevator up, but the second the doors open, we're face to face with none other than Cat Grant. "Well, well, well. Look what the wind blew in. Keira, get to work. You! Abs! In my office now." She walked away. Kara handed me the salad and drink. "Kiss. Her. Ass." I looked at her with wide eyes, then nodded.

I made my way to Cat's office and stood there quite awkwardly after setting her stuff on her desk. She narrowed her eyes at me. "I have half a mind to fire you." She looked down at her salad and drink with a scowl. 'Oh, shit. This might end bad.' She looks back at me, disappointed. "Where exactly have you been?" I opened my mouth to answer, but she cut me off. "Don't. I already know. You've been chasing after Kiera. How...pathetic." I gaped at her. Who the fuck did she think she was? "But the other half of my mind thinks that the lengths you went to just to be there for her is truly beautiful. There is nothing like unwavering devotion, boy. Keep it close to your chest. Guard it with your life."

She raised her brow. "Not what you were expecting?" I shook my head, gaping still. "I figured. Look, there was a time when I thought something like love was....foolish. A waste of time. And now? Now, I see that love is a powerful thing. It can conquer anything you wish it to." She took her corny ass glasses off. "I know your parents. They are very dear friends of mine. Should you ever need advice or an ear...well, you work here and you know where my office is." I smiled

She wouldn't say it out loud, but she wanted to be there for me in the absence of my parents. Speaking of which, I need to call them soon. I have questions I think they can answer.
