Alex's POV
I should've told Kara that if she went too hard that there would be consequences. It's not even a threat that I would dish out as a overprotective older sister, it's more like...I know how Kara's powers function, and if she goes too hard, her mind goes a bit haywire. I saw Hank walking in the direction towards Kara's room. "Just wanted to run a few tests on her ask her what exactly happened." I nodded at him and patted his shoulder. "Careful. She's on the fritz. If she says anything about a light show, just ignore her." He tilted his head in confusion before shaking is head with a smile and continuing on.
I pushed open the door to (Y/n)'s room and immediately noticed the temperature drop. "Brrr. It's bit chilly in here bud, don't you think?" I got no response and I walked closer to him. I laid my hand on his arm. "Warm to the touch...yet you can make the room considerably colder. Interesting." I gave his arm experimental shakes, trying to wake him from sleep and gently as possible. "Do you only do this when you're unconscious? Is it an involuntary thing? Maybe defensive? If this room gets any colder, we'll have to keep people out."
"You're quite the nerd. It's cute. Attractive, even." I jumped as (Y/n) spoke suddenly. "Now you're calling me cute? I was 110% sure you had a thing for Kara, not me." He chuckled lightly as he rose into a sitting position. He shrugged. "What can I say? I have an affinity for strong, intelligent women." I laughed and shook my head. "You sure you didn't hit your head wrestling with that brute? I'm positive that Kara is literally the only woman you see." He cracked a light smile. "The Kryptonian has her perks." I paused at that. Now I think he definitely hit his head.
"(Y/n), are you alright? Since when did you start calling Kara that?" (Y/n) seemed to bristle at that. "Oh, you think I'm (Y/n)? How...disappointing." I fixed him with a hard glare. "Who else would you be?" He folded his hands in his lap. "(Y/n) is going through some...trauma at the moment and can't be here." I crossed my arms. "That doesn't answer my question. Who are you if you're not (Y/n)?" He raised his hands in defense. "I see (Y/n) never thought to introduce me..." He muttered more to himself than me. "Never mind that. My name is Jörvintir. I guess you could refer to me as....(Y/n)'s alter ego?" I laughed at this. "Good joke, (Y/n). You know 'alter ego's' don't actually exist, right?"
The look (Y/n) gave me made me shiver. "You this is some kind of joke? My other half is literally suffering right now, and you're shrugging it off as a joke?" My eyes widened at his sudden verbal aggression. "Holy shit you're not joking. How is this even...?" He swung his legs off the side of the bed. "Possible? I have no clue. Actually, I have an inkling but...sometimes the paper trail is useless." I furrowed my eyebrows. "Care to share?" He folded his hands in front of him again. "He's...dealing with loss. Or maybe delayed loss? I have no idea. All I know is he's feeling so many emotions cluttered together that it's overwhelming him." I put my hand on my chin.
"I...I don't follow." Jörvintir sighed in exasperation. "I'm only here because...in a sense...(Y/n) wants me here. Most of the shit he's going through is centered around our past. He thinks...I'm stronger. He thinks that I can better handle what's going on." I nodded my head, understanding a bit more. "So...you're only here through circumstance? And you're a defense mechanism. Like a trump card! A failsafe!" He nodded. "Sure. If that explanation helps, then yes." I still had one more question. "Then why call Kara 'The Kryptonian'?" He shrugged his shoulders. "Emotional detachment is one of my quirks."
I waved my hands quickly. "Wait a minute. Now you're moving too fast. 'Emotional detachment'? Why would you...detach yourself?" He face palmed. "Because emotions are the reason I'm here in the first place. And if he keeps doting over the girl, how is he going to assert any dominance? Set boundaries?" I raised a brow. "What...? 'Assert dominance'? Really?" He casted his glance downwards. "Apologies. Friör Jötun thing. Force of habit." I shook my head at this. "I'm gonna call 'The Kryptonian' in here. Just don't detach your self too much." He chuckled again. "Can't promise I'll be here. She kinda rubs me the wrong way."
I stopped, turned, and looked at him. "Now you're just being a dick." He smiled. "Quirk #2. She is part of the problem." I glared yet again. "And just what is that supposed to mean?" He shrugged his shoulders. "Ask (Y/n). She poses a semblance of a threat to (Y/n)'s well-being, and it's my job to make sure that he's in stable enough condition to do what he was sent here for." I crossed my arms. "And pray tell, what is that?" He gave me a cold, distanced smile. "Protect the world, of course! To make sure what happened to his people won't happen again."
"So what exactly does this have to do with you beefing with Kara?" His gaze hardened. Well, if you're that curious, 'The Kryptonian' is putting (Y/n) through something. Something he's taking hard, and it's weighing on him." I scoffed at that. "What a pathetic excuse! So what if she rejected him? Big whoop! Get over yourself!" Jörvintir tutted. "You say that, but do you know what it feels like to be bound to someone and rejected by them? The one person you would do anything for without question, disregard you without any sympathy for how you might feel?"
"(Y/n) did this to himself. There are plenty of fish in the sea. He can move on." Jörvintir rose from the bed menacingly. "That's just it! (Y/n) didn't ask for this! He's bound to that girl whether he wants to be or not! He had no say in the matter." He paused and took a deep breath. "I tried being nice. No one wants to be the bad guy, but you're leaving me no choice. I'm going to help (Y/n) get through this. With or without your help. Keep her away from me. I mean that, agent Danvers.
