And just like that, spring break was coming to an end. On the last day at the cabin, we all cooked lunch for each other and just really enjoyed the quality time together. We packed our bags and when we took the drive back home, everyone was dropped off one by one until I was alone in the car.
By the time I finally got home it was almost dinner time so I walked into the house with the smell of my mom cooking dinner.
"Mom, I'm home!" I announced when I opened the door.
My mom walked out of the kitchen and walked up to me with open arms. She pulled me in for a hug and squealed out. "Oh, my daughter! How was your trip?"
I left my bags by the door and walked with her to the kitchen. "It was fun! Thank you again for letting us use the cabin."
"Don't even mention it! That cabin is just as much yours as it is mine. You can use whenever you want." She smiled at me and walked over to the oven to check on her food.
I smiled and walked over to the stove and helped stir her vegetables for the salmon she was making. I noticed the portion size was a little more than usual. "Why are you making a lot?"
She closed the oven and sighed out. She turned to look at me and put her hands on my shoulders. She lightly rubbed her hands on my shoulders and gave me a half smile. "He's...coming over for dinner."
My eyebrows furrowed and my fists clenched tight. I heavily sighed out. "Why...why would you invite dad here."
"Well," she started and continued on her food. "We've been talking this week and he's expressed how much he misses his daughter. He regrets what he did about the letter and wants to try and make amends."
I scoffed. "I will never make amends with him. He almost took away my only shot at having a better life! You're supposed to be on my side, mom!"
"And I am! But holding in all of this anger is not good for you. I just don't want you to hold this grudge against him and end up regretting it later. Don't you want to at least try?"
"Why should I try with him when he never gave me the chance? He's the one that left us. Why would a man who claims he cares and loves me just leave? We did perfectly fine without and we will still be fine without him. Uninvite him!"
"It's um...kind of too late for that." I heard a deep voice in the background along with the door closing and my anger boiled even more.
My mom slightly smiled at the person and I slowly turned around, hoping this would all be a nightmare. I looked him in the eyes, and to my dismay, this was worse than a nightmare. This is reality.
"Y/n." my dad smiled. He was dressed in a cashmere sweater and blue jeans, very casual compared to what I see at school. He held up a bouquet of flowers and extended them to me. "I hope you don't mind, but I got these for the house."
I rolled my eyes. I couldn't help but feel that there was some hidden agenda of why my dad is here. I haven't spoken to him in almost two months, which is surprising because whenever I get in trouble he calls me into his office. If it wasn't for him deliberately changing my letters, maybe I would eventually give him a chance. But that day he showed his true colors and it gave me a valid reason of why I hate him.
My mom cleared her throat. "Y/n, your dad got us flowers, is there anything you want to say to him?"
I looked at him and then looked away. "Thanks for bringing bugs into the house."
"Y/n." she scolded to me.
"No, it's okay." My dad cleared his throat and smiled. "She's talking to me, and outside of school too."
