One week later

"But you've not seen him since school break happened about a week ago?" My mom asked me.

"We had a fallout, that's all," I shrugged trying to throw her off track.

"I just don't understand it,"

"You don't need to,"

"Ophelia." She stressed sitting down on the seat beside me as she stopped setting the table. "Just talk to me,"

"What do you want me to say mom? We've fallen out,"

"Oh dear, it's so much more than that,"

"How would y'know?"

"Will you just tell me? I understand that maybe you and I haven't got the closest relationship but I'm your mother. I'm most probably the only person you can tell things to and know in your heart it won't go anywhere else,"

"You won't understand- you'll think I'm stupid,"

"I've lived on this earth for a while now, I'm pretty sure I'll have some sort of understanding what's wrong," She laughed slightly.

I took in a deep breath, before rolling my eyes and giving into her. "Alright, fine."

A smile appeared on her face as she waited for me to tell her what it was. How are you even supposed to tell your mom you're in love with her best friends son who she's watched you grow up with since you were tiny?

Would she be mad? Wouldn't this screw up things between our two families? Or would she think it's weird, does she think the bond between me and Billie is more brother and sisterly and so it would be weird to be in love with him.

"I don't even know where to start," I sighed.

"C'mon just start anywhere, it doesn't matter if you need to backtrack and forget parts okay? I'm here, just explain and I'll listen,"

She's being extremely nice, wow.

"Alright. Well... Billie has this- I don't know if he's told Ollie and she's told you but- he's got a girlfriend called Ella,"

"No, I've not heard of her,"

"Well... she doesn't like me. Along with all of Billies girlfriends he's had cause they don't trust how close I am with him. They all suspect I like him," I explained.

"Are they right?"

Here goes, "Yeah... yeah, they... they are,"

I expected her to start freaking out. But as I went silent she stayed silent still waiting to listen to my next words. So I carried on.

"So Ella doesn't like me. Which isn't a problem, y'know cause I don't really like her. But I went to this party, I met this boy called Miles. And one night at Gilman I saw him on stage- he's also got a band. So after green day got off I went behind stage and said hi to Miles. And Billie didn't like that at all, he was getting sort of angry with me when he overheard me tell Miles Billie is more like a brother to me-"

"-But he's not?"

"I know that, and Billie knows that. But I needed Miles to understand there really is nothing between Billie and I. So then the next day I met Miles in the coffee shop, and he told me that he believes Billie likes me. So he brought up the idea of this deal,"

"And the deal is?"

"You can't judge me,"

"I won't,"

"Alright," I nodded, beginning to carry on with my story. "The deal was. That Miles and I almost fake date. So that it gets Billie jealous, I asked him why would he do that for me. He said he too wanted to make someone jealous. An ex. So I thought there was nothing to lose and agreed. But the whole story comes back round full circle because the person that Miles wants to make jealous is with Billie,"
