Chinmayi's POV:The Joshi's were a family of doctors, except for Deepak, who chose to be an Engineer. And look at what fate had to play with me; he is destined to be my husband. I mean that is supposed to mean something. Astrology and elders on one hand, but the first glance of him still stayed fresh in my memory. I donot know whether that's a good thing. I am about to find out, ament I?
As we waited at their doorstep, Lakshmi aunty came with the Arathi thaali. She looked radiant in the yellow kanchivaram saree with bottle green blouse and her smile reflected the inner peace that her soul experienced.
Well, it's all worth is repeated my inner heart.
"Hare Krishna", she smiled at us.
" Hare Krishna Aunty ji", Bhabhi responded.
"Aao, Badi aur Choti Bahu, this is your home now.", and with those words she took arati for both Veera and me together.
I just looked at my toes and well, smiled. Megha came to the rescue and held my hand.
As Lakshmi Aunty placed the vermilion on both Veera and me, she asked us to step into the house by entering with our right leg.
Veera went first and I followed and all of my cousins trailed me.
I looked around at their beautiful house. It's a place where people save lives. The house itself is a temple.
As Aunty requested us to take our seats, she asked the maid to bring some juice.
I still couldn't take my eyes of the place and suddenly we heard heavy footsteps.
The Joshi men stood like three musketeers, all dressed for the occassion. I couldn't take my eyes off Deepak as he carelessly adjusted his hair as he entered the living room making a conversation with his brother and father.
My heart stopped for a second.
Am I really going to marry this man?
Have I been staring at him for too long?
Well I don't know.
I felt Megha nudging me.
"You like him? Do you wanna talk to him?", she whispered.
I blushed.
What?!
She nudged me harder and slowly placed her arm over mine.
When I looked over, I saw Aunty doing something all alone in the kitchen and it really looked like she needed some help.
So as I "suddenly" stood up, according to everyone i.e., I went to the kitchen to help Aunty.
"Arrey, Chinmayi Bahu..."
My heart stopped once again at the word Bahu. Isn't it a bit too early?
"Please come, do you need anything?"
"Nahi nahi aunty ji, I saw that you were working alone so, I thought if you needed a helping hand..."
"Arrey naa naa, beta... I was just chopping these apples to serve you all..."
"Aunty ji, please let me do it"
Her eyes teared up. I really didn't know whether I offended her.
"Aunty ji, sorry if I told-"
"No no dear, I never had a girl in this house and I always waited when these two would get married. I really felt guilty for not even taking your consent before fixing rishta for Deepak and now, look at you, already wanting to help this old lady. All my worries are gone dear. Deepak is very lucky to have you in his life and really now I see why the astrologer even suggested that...
We have definitely got a gem as our daughter in law..."
With these heavy words, Auntyji looked at me.
I smiled at her, genuinely.
She touched my hair and blessed me.
"Auntyji, if there's anything I can do, please let me know".
Well that was from Bhabi and as I turned around to see, all the Sharma girls and Megha were standing there.
Aunty's joy knew no bounds. She felt like as if her family was here and blessed us all.
She distributed the work to us while we made a conversation. It was mostly her talking about her hospital days and trying to lighten the mood. She is a very famous gynaecologist and hence had many good stories to share. It was so evident that she was careful enough to not stiffen the aura by talking about the wedding or her sons.
In ten minutes we were ready with all the things that was required to be taken to the temple. Aunty was so happy with the work we did and my heart also started to feel the sense of home.
Just then Uncle Ji called from the Hall telling that we were getting late for the pooja.
While my brothers spoke to the Joshi men, we packed everything and kept them on the dining table. Bhabhi also bought the gifts that Dadi and Bhadi ma had sent from our family end while Megha also placed what the Shastry's had to offer.
Aunty noticed that we had not taken the juice that was offered.
"Arrey, ghar ki betiyon ko acchi tarah se dekbaal karni chaahiye" and aunty herself fed us all a sip of juice while handing the glasses as we got it from there.
Her motherly love was super overwhelming and somehow all the inert numbness felt like as if it was dissolving.
As we walked towards the hall, Venkat uncle gently smiled at us. As Aunty ji joined him, Veera and me bowed down and touched their feet. Both of them jolted with joy and blessed us from their hearts.
I still didn't notice Deepak, if that is what you are asking...
I didn't want my world to crumble into the realm of reality.
Well, it was getting late and as we were leaving to the temple, uncle ji stopped us,
"Arrey, let Veera come with Eeshwar and Chinmayi with Deepak. Let's give them some privacy and alone time and the rest of us, let us ride with you, Charan beta."
What?!
Alone time with Deepak?!
So soon, reality had to slap me?
Well, it's REALLY happening, isn't it?
