Chinmayi's POV:
I felt numb. I mean, I was just one explanation away from falling for my fiance, but again, things took their own turns.
"Charan?", I tried to stop him but utterly failed.
"Chinnu, I am so mad at you. Why did you put with all this drama when you could have come to us. Why did you agree? And is that seriously an engagement ring on your hand?"
"Charan, let me explain-"
"Charan ji", spoke Deepak cutting me off in mid sentence.
"Deepak what is all this? You better have a good explanation, okay?", warned Eeshwar ji.
"I am extremely sorry for putting you all through this dilemma. Yes , I was having second thoughts about this wedding.
When my parents forced me to come to your party the other night, I just didn't want them to pester me anymore. You all knew about Veera and Eeshwar right? And I mean, it's great but I wasn't someone who really believed in astrology and stuff like that.
When I met Chinmayi, there wasn't any jolt of sparkles or fireworks. But over time, the care that she had for her family and mine, her maturity and love towards her closed ones made me also crave for it.
Bhai, Charan ji and Eeshwar, you know how irrationally love captures your heart. I realised my love for Chinmayi, today, seeing her like this. It's a weird reason and situation to realise your love, but it did happen. I slipped the ring into my pocket which my mom had kept along with other gifts and proposed her.
Eeshwar, you know me of how sure I am of my decisions in life, and well this is one of them.
I did hurt you all a lot, especially Megha, because, seeing your best friend like a cat on the wall is seriously a very tough thing to swallow.
In fact, thank you very much for giving me a chance to explain my real feelings in front of all of you, including Chinmayi. "
There was an eerie silence that filled the room. Everyone was just staring at the space bracketed by Charan and Deepak.
After a thoughtful amount of time, Charan uttered a throated "Mm".
"Charan ji, we are extremely sorry for what Deepak did, definitely there is no string of words that could actually soothe you right now. Infact nome of our family members knew that this actually happened.
But, I really want to say one thing ji and that is, Deepak has never been this genuine in life and now, we are all there to take care of Chinmayi. Please don't break this alliance." , said Eeshwar ji.
"Charan, I think you should give Chinnu a chance to speak, you know listen to what she has to say...", said Bhai.
"Charan, breathe, I am good. I know it seems hazy and not so right, but trust me, this is what I want.", I said.
"Well , we'll give you one week's time to prove yourself Deepak. I am agreeing to this, for my sister. But, one slip, we'll call this off."
***
I accompanied Deepak to his car.
It was the first alone time we had together and I felt I need to ask him what he didn't or couldn't say in front of my brother's and sisters. As if he read my mind, "When I was in my college, I had my heart broken and it took a lot of time for me to come out of it, Chinmayi. And after that, my opinion on women were not that great. That's what caused my initial reaction when I met you.
I infact chose a different career path from that of my parents and brother just to prove that I am unique. I am used to being authoritative and having things done in my way. But, over time I found a friend in you and frankly, I didn't have any reason to object this wedding. With this thought, spawned another series of thoughts which made me fall in love with you.
It made me kindle belief in things which I really didn't appreciate much. I want to mend things with my family for you.
You don't have to fall in love with me immediately. I know you have a lot of questions in that little head of yours. I will be patiently waiting to answer all of them."
As usual, he left me speechless. We reached his car and he unlocked it. I opened the driver's door for him and within a split of a second, he pulled me by waist and kissed me on the cheek.
God, he takes my breath away!
Not waiting for my reaction, with a plastering grin, he winked and got into the car.
"Will call you, take care!
And I hope someday you'll let me call you as Chinnu!"
