FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005

Rain hammered down incessantly over their vehicle as it ventured determinedly through the storm, tires spraying drenched tarmacked streets and kicking up craters of moisture from each and every small divet in the blacktop. Above them, the world was shielded in a murky emerald haze, as though they were inside a snowglobe painted green and the sky rolled angrily in a dense cloud covering like a brigade marching into battle. There was nothing warm or welcoming about the way that Forks Washington greeted them however despite that and the fact that they had never been there before; they felt painfully as though they were on their way home after a long holiday.

Her hair stuck easily to the cold moisture of the window, ringlets splaying like a frayed rope against her shoulders, curtaining her pale skin in the brightest way. Their hair seemed to slice through the murky green of their new climate, the two of them light as new flames where they sat in the fairly unexceptional SUV, skin pale and eyes a startling swirling gold that- coupled with their hair- made them seem so warmly inviting despite their visibly cold exterior.

"Mary Alice always loved the rain" she breathed, eyes batting gently with as much delicacy as a butterflies wings. Outside, her face was blank and showed nothing, only calm but internally, she was warring with her own rising hope as it swelled warmly in her chest- she was terrified of finding out that they were wrong, that she wasn't there after all; of her hope falling like a lead balloon as it had so many times prior. Something about this new climate, about this new dawn- made it seem so impossibly... possible that they would reunite with their sister after all this time, even though they knew she wouldn't remember.

"She did" he sighed in return, eyes pinned on the world outside the window as his pale hands clutched the steering wheel longingly; as though it could possibly be his anchor to his own hope. "And she always knew, every single time the rain came- she knew."

"...What if she isn't here, Si? What if she's moved again?" Hero cracked out brokenly and his eyes flashed across to his little sister, gaze scanning over her perfected, eternally nineteen-year-old features and her nervous smile. Simon could see how painfully important this was to Hero- it was possibly the most important thing.

"Then we keep on looking, Hero. We keep on looking until we find her, so we can see that she is okay, that she's happy. And if she wants to remember- we remind her" he nodded determinedly, eyes staring blankly forward. Simon Kelly had many regrets in life; he regretted allowing his sister to be institutionalised... It was okay for Simon to have been, but not her, not his little sister. He would never forgive himself for allowing that to happen or any of the subsequent events. Simon Kelly always, irrationally, blamed himself for the breaking of Hero.

"Eighty-five years" Hero mused, eyes trailing to follow a bead of water as it flowed down the glass in an asymmetrical, quivering bar, landing in a puddle at the bottom of the window before bouncing off entirely.

"I hope that she has found peace. That she has made a new family, as much as I do not relish the thought of being replaced- I would hate to find her having suffered all alone for this amount of time." Simon swallowed, pausing at a red light and being strangely in awe of the business of the roads even in these chaotic weather conditions; the people of Forks had long since grown acclimatised and their large trucks and sturdy wheels only indicated that. It was the most unlikely of places to have found her, the sweet, angelic girl that they had known- they expected her to have been exploring Paris or basking in heat on a private island- Not hiding away in a shadowy town with a population of only three thousand, one hundred and twenty.

The rain, however, indicated that she was here.

"I love the rain, how it comes down and makes everything clean. My Momma liked the rain too, she'd let me walk in it without an umbrella so I could hop in all the little puddles."

"Here we go" Simon swallowed as they pulled up beside the place they were staying, it was not the most forthcoming of homes, there was nothing particularly welcoming about the two bedroomed, one-story white wood house but it had been cheap and readily available. If Mary Alice was not there, they didn't want any reason for a prolonged stay, not when they could be visiting more entertaining locations in their search for their long-lost sister.

"It's... Charming" Hero hummed, offering the term out into the air and her brother shot her a side glance- when their matching golden eyes met, they bubbled with gentle laughter at their own expense. They did not know very much about Forks Washington, but from the taste of the air alone- they could tell that it was going to certainly be one hell of an adventure... The Kelly siblings knew a little something about adventures.

Venturing out into the rain, they laughed together as they made their way calmly into their new home- despite the misery of it, the white house perched on the edge of the forest; it was strangely warm as they stepped over the threshold and they couldn't help but hope that they would be staying there for a very long time to come...
