FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005

Hero Kelly could not help but smile as she walked side-by-side with Alice Cullen through the beautiful garden at the vampire house. It was everything she had always wanted, the feeling of that familiar arm looped through hers as they aimlessly chattered beneath the sparkling sun- this Alice was the best possible version of herself, she was now her happiest self and Hero was obsessed with the light optimism Alice radiated as she bounced gently on her arm, the garden path winding beneath them.

"It is going to be so perfect now. Simon will marry Esme and you will marry Carlisle and I know that quite soon, Edward will find someone to love forever too" the clairvoyant gushed and Hero froze on her arm, making Alice turn to her with a frown.

"Alice"

"Shh, Hero. Have I ever been wrong before? Hmm?" Alice winked, making Hero scoff and roll her eyes. The dark-haired girl seemed appeased with the reaction she had received. It had been a week now yet everything felt completely and utterly perfect as though a hundred puzzle pieces had fallen into place in a single moment. Life didn't get better than that, the feeling of warmth, of family.

Hero and Simon Kelly had both been growing closer to the Cullens, finding their place within that family, within that life but the one person Hero hadn't spoken to since that very first day... Was Carlisle. He was utterly perfect and it intimidated her, it made her feel imperfect, it made her worry that she would mess everything up if she truly tried to allow anything to happen. Simon did not hold the same concerns with Esme- the older Kelly had been growing impossibly closer to the caramel-haired woman and it lightened all of their hearts to see- they could not be happier about the new union.

"Alice... I do not know how to be what Carlisle needs. I don't know how to give him what Simon and Esme have, what you and Jasper have. I haven't ever allowed myself to be close to people, not since the very beginning- I was outcasted as a child because the village thought I was evil, because I had powers. And then I was in the asylum and the thought of ever being with someone was the furthest away possibility. It became painfully unlikely and I allowed myself to let go of that dream because it seemed to irrelevant. Living was more important than loving." she expressed her worries, Alice listening intently, smile soft. And at that moment- she was the Mary Alice Brandon that Hero knew, even if she didn't remember.

"Nobody ever knows how do love somebody Hero, not until you do. It just happens and you just do it and it feels so perfect. You are perfect for him, I know that. And maybe you aren't ready to love him just yet but that's okay because Carlisle is the most patient man I have ever met. He wants to help people and he isn't doing it out of pity. He will help you because even now, he loves you, Hero. And I know that you love him too because that is how destiny and soulmates work!" Alice bubbled in excitement and Hero was lost in contemplation.

Carlisle was one of the things she feared the most; a doctor, and she hated herself for it. Because to everyone else, doctors were people who helped others... Just not to her, Hero Kelly had a bad experience with people in white lab coats and she knew he was different to the others- but it didn't stop her fear as she and Alice slowly made their way back into the house. It felt as if she was chasing after something that was just out of her reach.

"Sisters" Simon hummed, nodding at them and Alice and Hero exchanged glances before smiling. Alice knew that it should feel strange, being called that by someone she did not even know but it felt normal. It felt right. The pixie vampire grinned before leaping easily over the back of the couch, landing in Jasper's lap- the man laughed in slight shock before holding onto her tightly. The ginger vampires couldn't help but be proud of Alice. "Game?" Simon hummed, gesturing to the chessboard and she grinned as she sat opposite him.

"Ninety years of practise... You'd think I would be able to beat you by now" Hero giggled as she moved a single chess piece into place, eyes flashing back up to Simon who chuckled and returned a move.

"I am a professional, that's why" he winked.

"You should give Carlisle a run, I would put money on the doc." Emmett scoffed, walking passed and he mused Simon's hair as he did, making the man glare in distaste though they could all see that it was good-natured. The Kelly's had not officially moved in just yet but they spent the majority of their time there.

"Well," Simon swallowed. "There wasn't much to do in the asylum by way of entertainment beside chess boards that nobody else played."

"Alice, Simon used to have two chessboards on the table and you and I would both play him at the same time" Hero giggled. "... He still won" she informed, seeming to not be paying attention to the board as she and Simon played quickly, instantly moving piece after piece. They were content, feeling like a complete family now and that was incredible.
