FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
"Perfect" Rosalie clipped, crossing her arms in discontent as Carlisle switched off the hob without a second thought, completely unfazed by the situation- happy in fact that he wouldn't have the opportunity to accidentally food poison Bella. Emmett sighed as he moved around the island to join her side and Esme unconsciously found herself looking back at Simon who smiled, making the few simple steps to join her side, wrapping his arms easily around her in comfort as Bella stuttered to explain- with absolutely no help from Edward.
"Yeah, it is just because I know that you guys don't eat" Bella stuttered in a bid to explain herself.
"Of course, that's very considerate of you" their matriarch smiled warmly, leaning back into Simon who had a relatively blank expression. All the while, Hero got to tidying the kitchen- with Carlisle graciously helping her to do so.
"Just ignore Rosalie, I do" Edward informed Bella lowly- though of course they all heard him and it did not help in any way to settle the rising tension in the commonly unused kitchen.
"Yeah" Rosalie clipped. "Let's just keep pretending like this isn't dangerous for all of us." she completely ignored the warning hand Emmett patted gently on her shoulder.
"I would never... Tell anybody anything" Bella attempted and it was very clear that she was floundering in search of the right words to say- still receiving no help from Edward who just stared at his blond sister.
"She knows that" Carlisle smiled, taking the teatowel easily from Hero's hands and tossing it against the counter, taking her in his arms as she smiled with slight stress in her eyes from all the tension. The doctor twisted her around and gently manoeuvred her around the island so that they could all stand together facing Bella. The human was clearly intimidated- not that she could be blamed for that but she was comforted by the smiles from Simon, Esme, Carlisle and Hero even though she had never even met three of them.
"Yeah, well, the problem is... You two have gone public now. So" Emmett shrugged, ignoring all the warning glares he received from around the room. He wasn't one to get the hint.
"Emmett" Esme warned.
"No, she should know" Rosalie clipped back in, silencing all the others. "The entire family will be implicated if this ends badly. That is nine people that will be implicated" she persisted and it was clear that her concern stemmed from how purely she cared for her family- even Edward, though they annoyed one another continuously.
"Badly as in... I would become the meal" Bella frowned, stuttering and there was a pause from all around the room as the tension vanished easily, leaving them all laughing slightly at her response. Thankfully though, they did not have long to wallow in the newfound awkwardness that had replaced the tension as Alice leapt easily from a tree branch in through the window- catching all their attention at once as Jasper joined, completely stiff and keeping his distance.
"Hi Bella" the pixie vampire bubbled, her husband grinding to a halt behind Hero and Carlisle who smiled assuringly at him- encouraging him to relax at least a single degree. "I'm Alice" she greeted and went straight over to the human to hug her, making them all smile- bar Rosalie. "Oh- You do smell good" she smiled and Simon scoffed, snorting out a laugh before Esme hit him in the chest with a playful glare.
"Alice, what are you....?" Edward frowned, looking completely embarrassed with the most bemused expression and Hero was amused by it- they had acted as a conventional family and embarrassed the brother when he brought home his girlfriend. It was textbook stuff.
"It's okay" Alice sand as she gently slid a flower into Hero's hair, tucking it next to her ear and gaining a smile from the redhead as Alice turned to do the same to Rosalie- though she received a discontented glare from her blonde sister, Alice wasn't at all fazed. "Bella and I are gonna be great friends." Bella just nodded and then an awkwardness lingered again as Bella's gaze fell on the major.
"Sorry" Carlisle smiled gently. "Jasper is out newest vegetarian. it's a little difficult for him"
"It's a pleasure to meet you" Jasper responded stiffly as Alice wound her arms around his waist. The honey-haired vampire seemed a million miles away now from the man who had squabbled with Emmett over a games console only a few hours ago, and that was a clear indication that he was in pain. He resisted well.
"It's okay Jasper" Alice patted his chest. "You won't hurt her" and that assured the room as a whole- Alice was rarely ever wrong about anything. However, Edward did not take the same comfort from the words, instead looking even more perplexed than before as he slowly dragged Bella backwards and away from the strange gathering of vampires in the kitchen- vampires who he called family.
"Alright, I am going to take you on a tour of the rest of the house" he dragged Bella away as fast as he physically could, making Hero giggle. The room seemed to lighten the second the human was no longer in it and the ginger-haired female twisted in her boyfriends hold, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her chin on his chest, looking up at him adorably with shimmering eyes that made him chuckle as Esme told of Rosalie a few feet away. Leaning down, the doctor pressed a sloppy kiss of Hero's lower forehead teasingly, making her screw up her features as she giggled.
"I think that that went well."
