FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005 SENSITIVE CONTENT!
Hero watched the pretty little house in front of her calmly from her position high up in the tree branches. The Swan residence was warm, welcoming as a house could possibly be, it was lived in with a hand made windchime and a door with chipped paint, an assortment of pots across the porch that had clearly been made by a child at some point- she suspected Bella... And strangely, that saddened Hero, Bella had exactly the father Hero had always dreamt of, a man that actually loved and protected her. Hero had been hated by her only remaining parent since the moment she entered the world, she was the thing that had killed her own mother and how could she ever forgive herself for that? Even if it couldn't be helped.
The men had headed off to Pheonix and for the first time in centuries, Hero and Simon were further than a few miles from one another- it was strangely unnerving, like walking through a street at the early hours of the morning and coming across nobody or going out in the rain without a coat- it felt wrong.
Forks had been a completely different adventure to how she ever anticipated, she'd found more in that dainty dreary town than she could ever even have dreamed of, she had been reunited with her sister and even found new ones, Rosalie and Esme. And she impossibly even had more brothers now, as well as Carlisle. The second she had accepted the bond between her and the doctor, everything seemed to go flying into place as it was as if a puzzle had finally been completed. She knew the second she had first kissed Carlisle that she would do anything for him and his family- she'd finally found a home, something she didn't even realise she didn't have, something she didn't even realise she needed.
And now, they were all risking their lives in Pheonix to race to a Ballet studio, hopefully getting there before anything irreversible took place- and Hero was sat in a tree branch, hidden by a curtain of leaves as she watched the little house in case of intruders of the red-haired variety... And no, that didn't mean Simon.
"Need a little company?" a voice asked and Hero was startled, having been trapped in her own thoughts though as she looked down at Rosalie- she couldn't help but smile. The blonde was beside her in a second, the branch creaking though not shifting as their legs dangled easily. "You've been out here all night, you realise they are on their way back now?"
"They are?"
"You left your phone behind" Rosalie smiled warmly. "Charlie will be informed soon that Bella's been in an accident, I guarantee he's ready to head and visit her right now"
"Is it bad?" Hero questioned softly.
"Not as bad as it could have been, she was beaten up a bit, has a broken leg and some bloodloss but she'll recover... She's going to be okay" Rosalie huffed and seemed strangely relieved. And that was when Hero finally cottoned on to Rose's disliking for the human- she didn't hate her, she was scared for her, she was jealous of the life that Bella was throwing away by being with them and scared that she was going to end up dead- or worse. As Hero turned her eyes back to the house, she couldn't help but also be jealous of Bella as Charlie bustled out to his car, pulling his coat on all the while, his boots still being untied in his hurry.
Bella Swan had a perfect life, in the eyes of the two vampires in the trees of course- Rosalie saw Bella's life as perfect because she was a human who had so many opportunities ahead of her, opportunities that Rosalie did not have. And Hero saw Bella's life as perfect because the brunette didn't have to worry about pain or hardship, she wasn't outcasted, hated, grieving or tormented, she wasn't tortured or harmed. And from birth, Hero had known sadness... From the age of fourteen- she had known truly what pain was.
"Hero..." she flashed her golden eyes up to the blonde whose face was consumed with a look of contemplation. "You were taken into the hospital when you were fourteen?" Hero couldn't help but smile at the way Rosalie called it a hospital... Hospitals were places that helped people, where they had ended up didn't help them in even the slightest, not even once.
"Yes?"
"What happened to you? Between fourteen and eighteen when Alice came?" she asked softly, her voice beautifully warm. "If you don't mind me asking."
"I don't mind you asking Rose" she sighed, eyes dropping onto the now-empty house so that she didn't have to meet the curious gaze beside her. "I've just never had the opportunity to tell people, Simon is the only person I have ever been close with. I don't know how to talk about the things that happened. The doctors... They were ruthless and aside from the common electroshock therapy- they knew they could do whatever they chose to Simon and me because nobody was ever going to come looking. They were experimental... Treated us like animals but... I guess that I was unfortunate, being a woman. It shouldn't matter really, who you are. Nobody should ever have to suffer through what they enforced on me. They were men... And they ruined the child in me" she sighed, eyes watery and Rosalie captured her hand softly.
Hero and Rosalie's eyes met there in the treetops and they didn't have to say anything to know that they understood one another. Both of them had been taken advantage of when they were human, ruined.... But they were fighters, survivors. And that brought them closer than anything else ever could, they got one another...
