PORT ANGELES, WASHINGTON, 2005

Hero Kelly made her way easily through the crowd, people naturally gravitating away from her when she passed on her search for Carlisle- naturally, she found him easily. The blond doctor smiled gently with his friends, glass in hand and for a moment, she just paused and stared at him. It took Carlisle two seconds to notice Hero there and his eyes visibly lit up, the polite smile becoming a happy one when he looked up at her. He excused himself easily and slipped away to her side once more- still in awe of her beauty after all that time.

"Dance with me?" she questioned softly, knowing that he would hear and Carlisle seemed to proud to have been asked- though there was something clearly wrong that put him on edge, Hero wasn't happy and he didn't know why but allowed her to tug him onto the packed dancefloor nonetheless. The doctor pulled her easily to his chest and following the steps of a simple waltz was as easy for them as breathing as the music flowed beautifully through their ears.

Hero Kelly felt perfect in his arms, as though she had been made to stand right there beside him. And he marvelled in the sparks that travelled through him, as though her presence was trying to restart his unbeating heart with the furious passion. Hero- despite seeming to be agitated- calmed as she held his hand gently. It felt effortless, being there with him and the second she looked up into those hypnotising golden eyes; the entire world seemed to cut off around them and the others on the packed dancefloor seemed to vanish. It became just him and her, alone with the music.

"There's something wrong" he breathed, worry painting over his features in the form of a frown and despite not having done anything wrong- Hero felt bad for having put that sadness in his eyes.

"Your friend assumed that I was an escort" she rose an eyebrow and Carlisle's jaw visibly tensed, a reaction she had least expected from him- he seemed angry and he truly was, because he could see how that upset Hero and anything that upset her, upset him now. He hated the sight of the sadness in her swirling golden eyes where they stood under the dimmed lights together.

"Kathy? I'll talk to her, she will apologise to you. I am sorry, Hero. She is petty." he sighed, shaking his head in clear distaste in his eyes and it only brought into question her other concerns.

"I need you to tell me the truth" she swallowed, dropping her eyes down to his perfect bowtie and Carlisle frowned, wishing she would look up at him so he could at least attempt to read those beautiful eyes.

"Always"

"Did anything ever happen... With you and Kathy?" she queried and his face instantly twisted into one of horror and surprise as he held her unconsciously closer- Hero did not protest to the hold, melting into him from her previously still position.

"What did she tell you?" he implored softly, gently releasing her hand and instead reaching over to take her chin impossibly gently, guiding her face to look up at his where they continued to sway slightly- he handled her like she was made of glass, fingertips gently dusting across her cheek, awed by the warm softness of her- Hero Kelly was certainly a very unique vampire. Hero didn't seem to mind as she leant into his touch- they may have been immortal creatures with a destiny that held them together but of course, they were still bound by human emotions.

"She told me that you went out a few times, that you talk to her a lot? But that you never mentioned me and that was why she thought I was an escort" she breathed out in a shattered breath and Carlisle sighed, resting his forehead against hers- she wasn't at all opposed to the new development as he held her so sweetly, so lovingly beneath the lights. "Is any of that true?"

"She lied to you, Hero. I never went out with her, so to speak. We, as a group of work colleagues, were supposed to go out for drinks together- I went to keep up appearances, everyone cancelled and I was stuck with her- I was polite, stayed for a very short while and then left. That is all that happened unless you count going on a coffee run once on shift?" he frowned, leaning back to look into her eyes and she smiled gently, shyly.

"I'm sorry"

"What do you have to be sorry about, Hero?"

"I am sorry if you thought that I was upset with you, I wasn't. Even if something did happen, I would never judge you, Carlisle, you are everything." she sighed out, pressing her forehead back onto his, the line of her nose running parallel to his and their lips so painfully close.

"Hero, I am yours. You are my everything too, you have the right to feel however you feel. Please, never apologise to me about the way you feel." he smiled gently and she nodded softly, looking up at him in consideration and he felt soothed as he danced alongside her. When Hero's hand came up to his cheek, Carlisle's hands both came to rest on her waist and she couldn't help but lean into her touch as she gently caressed his jawline before she smiled the smile of an angel and slipped her hand behind his head, into his hair.

The world seemed to move in slow motion as she gently pulled his head down toward her and his arms tightened around her waist instinctively as their lips finally met for the very first time. And it was everything Hero had ever dreamed a first kiss to be, it was passionate and full of love, it was the kind of kiss that the movies gush about- a firework inspiring, all passionate tango in a singular peck and Carlisle's hand took Hero's cheek in return, the two of them clutched in their very own little world as they kissed on the dancefloor. Leaning back from one another- they both laughed in giddy excitement.

Everything was officially perfect.
