FORKS, WASHINGTON, 2005
Hero Kelly smiled gently to herself as she sat calmly at their most recent dining room table, Forks Washington had brought them nothing but rainy skies and a lack of new information in their past few days there, and they'd quickly grown to realise how perfect the climate was for vampires. It didn't any longer feel like a harsh stretch to imagine that Mary Alice was there somewhere. In her hand, she clutched a beautiful blue coloured pencil, more spread out beside her neatly as she squiggled away on a piece of paper that felt gentle beneath her touch.
"Remind me again what leads we have here" Simon grumbled from where he sat opposite, swinging slightly on his chair as he flexed his legs though his golden eyes were trained on the image his baby sister drew, an image of Mary Alice Brandon in all her human glory, blue eyes shimmering. Their long-lost sister was Hero's favourite muse.
"The French coven directed us to a J.Jenks, he is said to be a human who helps vampires with things such as passports- all the things we ask Daniel for" she shrugged. "We then proceeded to bribe Jenks with thousands of dollars to spill a secret about some clients. He knows nothing of a Mary Alice Brandon- as far as he is aware, he doesn't exist. He only had one Mary on record, she was not who were are searching for. Though, he had one client by the name of Alice. He has created numerous birth and marriage certificates for her, as well as passports of two varying names. Alice Cullen and Alice Whitlock. At the same time, he also completed work for others with the surname Cullen and believes that this Alice Cullen is married to his client Jasper Hale slash Whitlock slash Cullen" she laughed gently.
"Right, so now we are searching for either a Hale, a Whitlock or a Cullen vampire... assuming that J.Jenks isn't full of lies, that Alice Cullen is actually our Mary Alice and that she still travels with this Jasper." Simon sighed, running his hands over his face in a strangely human gesture that made his sister smile. "Stop laughing at me"
"I'm not" she frowned before her eyes lit with a look of realisation, eyes scanning around the room for something- or someone that she would not be able to see either way. "Who?"
"Heather" Simon shook his head though there was vague amusement in his eyes as he stared pointedly at a specific spot, smiling at the young spirit who grinned in response. Heather was physically and mentally frozen at the age she had been in death as she swung her legs gently where she sat in one of the wooden dining chairs- only visible to Simon. In immortality, he had acquired much more control over his ability and therefore, could turn it off and on at will, though he had always had a soft spot for little Heather Mulligan, even if he had once been the same age as her. "She likes your picture." he mused and Hero grinned despite herself, turning her drawing to where Simon had been staring previously, showing the ghost she could not see.
"Jenks said that his most recent address for Jasper was right here in Forks and that they last met a year ago in Seattle. Amun from Egypt said that the Cullens occupy permanent residences, that they drink the blood of animals as we do. So assuming all of that- there is a high probability that assuming Jasper still travels with them- they are still here" she encouraged, voice warm. Hero was bright and smiling and he couldn't help but sigh, the eternal pessimist in 'old age'- as he put it.
"That is a lot of maybes" he pointed out, watching Heather with an intent gaze as she attempted to clutch the pencils in her hands- she could not touch them, however, her hand never staking a claim against them and she pouted- though having expected no other outcome.
"Right, that is why I have made this" she grinned and showed him the perfect drawing of Mary Alice Brandon- Hero had always been a brilliant artist, taking after her mother in that regard.
"What are we supposed to do with that? Make wanted posters?" he replied, making her roll her eyes.
"No, but we can ask the townspeople if they have seen her. That wouldn't be too weird" she nodded certainly and Simon just closed his eyes, not answering her. It felt as though they were the closest they had ever been to finding her, though, similarly- they were still a million miles away. It didn't help when their leads seemed to vanish out from underneath them. Simon rubbed his forehead slightly, feeling a slight pressure there from where he strained to keep the spirits contained, he only allowed those out that he wanted to see. Simon's mind only grew more and more peculiar with years passing by but slowly, he removed the ghosts- allowed them to pass on to whatever was next. Many decades ago, Simon Kelly had bid a final goodbye to his mother and as painful as that had been, he knew that wherever she was now, was better than lingering for eternity in a cold world in which they could not interact with anyone they cared for.
Heather Mulligan was a continual puzzle for Simon, she was such an optimistic girl, dreaming of the 'beyond' and whatever her six-year-old mind dreamed that to be, but they couldn't for the life of them find her peace. Poppy Kelly's peace had been found when her children were grown up when they were free and safe, that was all she had ever wanted and that gave her her ability to move on to the afterworld. Heather, however, was eternally trapped in the middle.
"This is the only plan we have, Si and we're close, I can feel it."
