FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
Simon and Hero Kelly were in something of a state of shock as they stood staring at her, they had searched decades for her, for this very moment and now that they were faced with a smiling Alice Cullen who had her life completely and utterly figured out- they didn't know what to do or say. They didn't know what they expected but they had promised themselves that they would find her, ensure her safety and answer any questions she wanted to ask. They didn't, however, plan to come storming in to disrupt the peace that she had found. Perhaps, Alice didn't want to remember.
"Eighty five years" Simon sighed, swallowing as he ran a pale hand through his hair, clearly pained and in a world of thought as those around the room stared expectantly at them.
"Sorry?" Emmett clipped in when nobody said anything else on the topic.
"It has been eighty five years this summer that I told you to keep going, that I said I had to go back and that I wanted you to find yourself someplace safe- to wait out the transition and that I would come back for you. This is my coming back for you- even if you don't remember." Simon swallowed, looking over at Hero who glanced at him for a second, nodding her assurance before turning her eyes back to face Alice who had her mouth gaping in confusion.
"I understand that you must be confused right now, Alice. I am Hero and this is my brother, Simon. We have been looking everywhere for you, since the beginning. We needed to know that you were okay, that you had found happiness, and if you have, if you don't want to talk about the time before your memories cut off- then that's okay. We can leave now, we'll go far away where you'll never have to see us again. Because we came here, just to check on you." Hero smiled. "You were our sister once" her eyes pooled with venom that would never drop in tears.
Instinctively, in confusion but following her heart, Alice made her way quickly across the room and pulled the girl into her arms, shocked to find their matching heights and the strange warmth of Hero. The red headed girl seemed to melt into the dark haired female, clutching her like a lifeline as a single sob cracked through her lips.
"It's okay, Hero. I don't remember but... I know that you belong here, you're my family... I- I don't know how I know that but... I just do" Alice frowned, pulling back and looking deeply into Hero's eyes before she turned her smile to Simon gently. "I knew you... when I was human? We were friends."
"Closer than friends" Hero smiled out her breath, collecting herself and noticing the man behind Alice who leant in the archway of the room, his honey coloured hair perfect and his many scars somehow adding to his beauty. He stared intently at them, face unreadable though oddly defensive.
"They're telling the truth." A voice cracked across their conversation and the two gingers frowned as their eyes turned around to face the man from the piano- he was stood now as he stared in confusion at them, but he wasn't the only one to have a sudden change of expression. Simons expression shifted, as though he had seen something strange and he fixed his eyes on a spot beside Edward- the strange staring of his had everyone turning to follow his gaze- and consequently frowning when they saw nothing there. Hero smiled gently, placing a hand on his upper arm as she spoke gently.
"Who is it?" She breathed and he looked down at her for a fraction of a second before staring back up at Edward who frowned deeply.
"Elizabeth Masen... do you know an Elizabeth Masen?" He questioned and Edwards face contorted into an unreadable expression.
"She's my mother" he ground out and Hero's eyes instantly brightened as she looked up at Simon. The older Kelly sibling grinned now too.
"You have a telephone call from the great beyond, my friend," Simon remarked, crossing his arms, much to the confusion of everyone.
"What's going on?" Alice frowned and Hero smiled reassuringly.
"Simon... he sees ghosts," she blinked as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "He sees the spirits of people who are trapped between here and whatever is after. He calls it being trapped in the middle. Slowly, he has been helping people find their peace but... Elizabeth must have unfinished business."
"Please, shall we take this somewhere else? Your mother has much to say" Simon stared calmly and Edward just stared, nodding gently before scanning those around the room and receiving reassuring smiles before he followed the brother from the room- leaving his sister with the pressure of hundreds of questions.
"Hero. Let me introduce you to everyone. You have already met Emmett and Rose?" Alice began and the ginger girl nodded, smiling before following her sister's attention. "This is Jasper Whitlock, my husband." Hero's eyes became one of awe as she stared at Jasper.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Jasper. I am so glad that you and Mar- um- Alice have found one another. You always did dream of your Prince Charming Alice" she grinned to her old/ new friend and the pixie girl stared down at her shoes almost shyly while Jasper winked at his wife.
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ma'am." He nodded and Hero smiled.
"This is Esme," Alice continued and Hero smiled shyly, shaking the woman's hand as Esme expressed warmth with a singular look.
"Nice to meet you, Esme."
"And you Dear"
"And this man right here" Alice continued, eyes sparkling in a very familiar way that had Hero frowning in consideration as she turned her gaze back to the stunning man she had been avidly avoiding due to purely how much of an impact he had on her. "Is Carlisle Cullen- our leader."
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Kelly" he smiled gently and she knew just from his attention and soft voice alone, she would be blushing if she could.
"And you Mr Cullen. Please, call me Hero" she encouraged and he chuckled, nodding as he accepted the hand she hesitantly offered, shaking it softly. Carlisle was the third Cullen to be shocked by her temperature but that was not the most surprising thing about Hero Kelly- she was instantly the most mesmerising, hypnotising person Carlisle had ever met. And he had many questions.
"Then you must call me Carlisle."
