FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
The Cullen mansion was basked in calm that day and Hero relaxed easily beside Carlisle on the couch, her legs draped over his lap. It seemed so perfectly normal to be that way with him now, to have his arms around her warmly where they sat side-by-side together and Hero's finger aimlessly toyed with the short curls at the back on his head, her chin placed on his shoulder, head tilted towards him. They were calm, unmoving in silence.
"Hey" a voice popped up to break them from their silence and there was a simultaneous sigh that brought their calm to an end- turning Hero was comforted by the grinning face of Alice Cullen, her eyes telling a million secrets of things that hadn't happened yet. Hero was certain that she would never grow tired of Alice, they had been sisters since the very beginning and no manner of horror could ruin that, they were best friends even before they knew one another- soul sisters one could say.
"Hello Alice" Carlisle smiled and Hero flipped herself around to sit more conservatively beside the man she was destined to spend eternity with. Nothing had ever excited Hero so much as the prospect of spending forever at his side.
"There is a storm coming" she grinned and Hero blinked, her head filling with so many thoughts that it almost gave her a headache- the impossible. As thrilling as it was to be with Alice again, it also posed as a reminder for things she had long since forgotten- things she would rather never think of again. "And we are going to play baseball" Alice cheered, making Jasper smile from beside her. "Everyone has already agreed so you don't have a choice."
"We would love to, Alice, thanks for asking" Hero winked, causing Alice to giggle as she nodded in pride.
"I have left out your baseball clothes on the bed- you're welcome" she grinned and vanished before either of them had a chance to even ask a singular question about the situation. They were both so used to such a thing now that it didn't even affect either of them, Alice was just a weird person but truthfully- who wasn't?
"It looks like we're playing baseball then" Hero hummed as she twisted in Carlisle's lap and he chuckled as he reached up to stroke his pale hand gently through her flawless red curls, his hand coming to rest upon her hip, tangled with her locks- he didn't really mind the development. The doctor lent across and pressed a kiss to her forehead calmly just as someone entered, the second they did, a groan spread through the room and Carlisle and Hero involuntarily released laughter as they turned to face Simon whose hand was pressed tightly over his eyes.
"Is it over?"
"It's over" Hero assured as she pulled herself to stand, shaking her head to flatten her hair out from its ruffled position. Simon cracked his fingers open, peeking at them before grinning and dropping his hand down to his side completely.
"You and I need to set some ground rules mister" Simon decided, pointing to Carlisle with narrowed eyes. "You keep kissing my sister in my proximity"
"And you keep kissing his sister in front of him" Hero reminded as Esme entered, the caramel-haired woman rose an eyebrow in vague confusion at the scene before Simon hummed and nodded.
"Touche, I'll let it slide this time, Doc. But let's all remember, she doesn't need to see this" he clicked his fingers and pointed to an empty seat in the room- causing Esme and Carlisle to frown in confusion.
"Heather" Hero reminded and looks of realisation slipped across their faces as they nodded.
"You don't know what's coming for you Cullens, us Kelly siblings are incredible at Baseball" Simon assured with a grin, gesturing between himself and his little sister with his thumb and a scoff dragged their eyes over to where Emmett was leaning against the doorway with disbelief in his eyes.
"Yeah right, I bet you a ten dollars, I can get you out" Emmett breathed calmly and Hero grinned as she looked over at the determination on her brothers face. For two people who had always run alone, searching for their long-lost sister, it felt incredible to finally be apart of a family, especially that one. The Cullens were incredible, that was undeniable.
"You're on, Big man"
"Emmett, I thought Rosalie banned you from betting?" Esme reminded with a quirked brow and Emmett's head instantly whipped around in search of his blonde wife, when he didn't find her, he grinned arrogantly.
"It's a secret bet, Momma Bear, don't you worry about that. All undercover" he winked and the caramel-haired matriarch didn't even bother to argue as she continued her walk through the room and up the stairs to get ready for the game that would be taking place in not too long. Esme actually had absolutely no intention of playing but she liked being a good sport and at least watching. They all cheated anyway.
"Well, you enjoy your undercover betting, I'm going to get ready before Alice shaves my head" Hero smiled, waving at each of them pleasantly and whipping away in a skipping fashion, leaving Carlisle with a dreamy smile that Simon contemplated with a look of disgust. Everything was working itself out and there was nothing better than that.
