FORKS, WASHINGTON, 2005
"You know, Rose, I think that emerald green in your colour" Hero hummed as she gently painted the girl's nails with impeccable precision, the blonde girl watching on with a content smile. Hero and Rosalie sat across the coffee table from one another, both dressed in comfortable attire, shoeless in their own home, feeling the warmth of the rug below their stone bodies- they were having something of a slumber party though Emmett and Jasper's bickering from across the room definitely but a damper on the calm of the situation- the two of them were competing furiously on some games console that Hero had no interest in learning the name of.
"Guarantee you it is because she is a Slytherin" Simon hummed sincerely though his eyes showed light humour. He was sat in one of the reclining armchairs with Esme Cullen tucked up beside him, her body mostly on top of his in the small chair, a blanket strewn unnecessarily over them as Esme read her book with serious concentration.
"What on earth is that supposed to mean?" Rosalie persisted with a frown on her forehead, seeming slightly offended and both the ginger siblings looked at her with pure horror on their faces. Hero and Simon exchanged a glance, speechless in their shock.
"No no." Simon shook his head. "You are not telling me you have never watched nor read the Harry Potter series?" he clicked and Rosalie just stared at him with a blank, upraised eyebrow. "Oi, lads." Jasper and Emmett turned to him expectantly. "Have you watched Harry Potter?"
"The boy wizard?" Emmett frowned. "No, heard of him though" he shrugged as if it wasn't a problem- completely oblivious to the horror of the new members.
"Esme?" Simon hummed.
"I can't say I have, no" she frowned, shrugging though he had actually expected that from her- Esme was sweet, innocent and in only a month- he already knew everything about her from her shoe size to her mother's maiden name.
"Well, it is a good thing you all don't need sleep because we have movies to watch" Hero clapped excitably, showing a childish excitement that they hadn't expected from her, though it made them smile to see.
"We will have to rain check on that" Rosalie mused, a grin splitting over her cheeks at something behind Hero's head and she flashed her eyes around to see Carlisle leaning on the back of the couch, still in his words uniform- having only just gotten home and when their gold eyes met- he grinned at her.
"Can I steal you for a moment?" he breathed and she was instantly hypnotised by him, nodding shyly before screwing the lid back on the nail polish and hopping to her feet to round the furniture, joining his side. Carlisle and Hero exited the room together, heading upstairs and all the while, they had the hawk-eyed gaze of Simon Kelly on him- making Esme scoff, tapping him on the chest in amusement.
Hero smiled when she and Carlisle finally came to a halt in his bedroom- a place she had found herself spending more and more time in recently. The red-headed female hopped easily to flop on her stomach on his bed like a penguin, hands instantly shifting through the hundreds of pages of paper that remained there- Carlisle called it organised mess but Hero truly saw no method to his random scattering of belongings.
"Did you have a good day?" she hummed, resting her head in her palm as she watched him shrug out of his doctor's coat, hanging it on a hook by his door alongside his other coats- even though his wardrobe was right there. Again was the 'organised mess'.
"Stressful" he chuckled, slouching to sit beside her on the bed, lifting some pages and dropping them away from him easily, seeming to destroy his own system in a simple movement. "I was wondering," he asked shyly, smiling tightly and she blinked, waiting. "The hospital has this fundraiser ball every year... I was wondering if you would want to go?... With me? You don't have to if you don't want to, don't feel obligated" he swallowed and she grinned, finding Carlisle's shyness to be absolutely adorable.
"I would love to go, I've never been to a ball before" she giggled, amused by the way he seemed to calm down in an instant, his glittering golden eyes watched her warmly, adoringly as she picked up his hand and started to gently play with his fingers. Hero was slowly getting better with physical contact, but he never pushed her and she had quickly grown to appreciate that about him. He only ever touched her if she initiated it. After a second thought, Hero shoved all the papers into a pile and crawled over the king-sized bed towards him.
Once there, Hero looked at him for a long second, seeing his warm smile before she pulled him into a hug, wrapping her arms around his waist as he shifted to lie down, her head resting against his shoulder, forehead to his neck. For a long moment, they just sat there, getting used to the new development before she melted into him as he held her back gently, a smile lighting up his face. At that moment, Carlisle felt all the stress and worry leave his body. She was more effective at calming him than even Jasper was and as his hand stroked over her red curls, slightly mesmerised, he knew that it was going to be a good eternity.
