FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
"Please, you must tell me everything" Alice encouraged with a grin as she pushed Hero to sit gently beside her, ushering the hesitant Cullen coven to crowd around and listen in. They sat down shyly, eyes nervously watching the red head who had the brother with the awesome power. Speaking of which- as they took a seat, a refreshed looking Edward and a gently smiling Simon re-emerged, the two of them seeming close from whatever bonding experience they had undertaken in the other room.
"Are you sure you would like to know, Alice?" Simon frowned as he sat close beside his sister, neither of them particularly minding in the packed room. It was obvious to Hero that Simon was avoiding the gaze of this Esme and she instantly wondered why- though didn't say anything. "It isn't a very nice story, your brain made you forget for a reason."
"I would like to know" Alice nodded determinedly and they smiled, it was the reaction they knew she would eventually have. Mary Alice Brandon wasn't one to reject the truth when it was offered kindly to her. "I have been waiting my entire life, wondering why I can't remember, not even knowing my own real name. Please, if you do not mind- tell me your story and then, you can help me remember mine?" The siblings exchanged a glance before nodding at one another with smiles.
"Fair warning, it is a long story"
"Can't be any longer than Carlisles" Emmett smirked and the blond man scoffed, rolling his eyes though in gentle amusement as he watched the Kelly siblings calmly. Internally, he was a mess, battling his own emotions regarding the new girl who caused such a frenzy in him. Jasper seemed to know- and find it highly entertaining.
"Please go ahead" Rosalie encouraged with a smile and Hero leant back to allow Simon to start- she hadn't even been alive when things started going wrong.
"I was born December 1896 in Biloxi Mississippi." He started, "My father was a wealthy businessman named Joseph Kelly and my mother was an heiress named Poppy Mulligan. Dear old dad was a bit of a dick" Simon shrugged, nudging Hero who laughed gently. "But mom was delightful. Dad being cruel and idiotic as he was didn't spend much time with me- that only got worse when I started seeing ghosts" he scoffed.
"How does it work? The ghost thing?" Jasper frowned in pure curiosity and Simon smiled.
"To me, they are as real as you are, I can see them, touch them, speak to them. They are beautiful even, the perfect version of themselves as they wait, suspended, neither here nor there. They have something of a foothold on this side and the afterlife. I can force them away if I truly would like to. Simply, I am not purely on our side. I am the only one that can see them which suggests that somehow, I am slightly in their realm, outside of ours but only the smallest bit. When they find peace, I stop being able to see them" he shrugged and they nodded affirmatively. "I had always been able to see them but it wasn't until I could talk that everyone else found out about it. My mother was accepting, she believed me because there was no other explanation. I could see her sister."
"Our auntie Heather died of pneumonia when she was only six years old, there is no photograph of her and we were never told about her but Simon knew, he spoke to her then and he still does now. That was the only evidence that our mother needed." Hero smiled gently and Simon nodded as he continued.
"When I was five, my mom became pregnant. It was a rough pregnancy and that didn't have anything to do with anything other than pure happenstance. Hero over here was born in August 1901." He jabbed a finger in her direction she she smiled nervously.
"Our father was adamant that I wouldn't be named something as... bizarre as Hero so my real name is Victoria Hero Kelly... he is the only person that ever called me that," she scoffed and Simon smiled gently, knowing that the next part of the story was painful for her.
"Our mother, she died in childbirth and I think that Joseph always blamed Hero for that, blamed his own daughter for the death of his wife that couldn't be helped" he tsked and frowned again. "The second my mother died, I saw her, she was reunited with her little sister once more and my father was furious when I said I could see her. He didn't want to believe it. He'd rather hate me instead and call me a liar. Didn't take long for him to realise that his daughter was just as weird as I was." He teased and Hero elbowed him in the ribs, making him flinch mockingly.
"Simon stopped seeing our mother a few decades ago, she found peace when she saw that her children had found their own peace, in life. We were safe, vampire and free. And so she could move on" Hero smiled gently.
"Hero was two when she started to make crazy shit happen" Simon snorted, making his sister glare at him.
"What can you do?" Emmett encouraged excitably.
"If I am death, then Hero is life" Simon our simply. "She can make flowers bloom, heal wounds and change the weather. She can make life. And I'm sure if she really had cause for it, she could bring someone back from the dead. Our powers seem to develop more and more every day—- with passing days, my abilities stretch, I am currently working on being able to drag people back over to our side, so you can see them too, but only temporary of course. It's all a work in progress"
"I see the energy in things" Hero elaborated. "And I can manipulate it, so to speak." She shrugged.
"That's incredible" Carlisle mused, eyes bright and she couldn't help but grin shyly in return.
