FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005

"We were together in the asylum for a year, Alice. And then a new groundsman started and he took it upon himself to set us free considering we weren't supposed to be there at all" Simon sighed. "So he approached us in the garden and we set about a plan"

"The plan was that on one night, he would break in and sneak us all out through the underground passages." Hero sighed, swallowing and Simon smiled gently at her before taking over.

"And it worked... for the most part" Simon scratched the side of his head awkwardly.

"No need to lie, Si. It was a complete and utter disaster" Hero giggled. "Initially it seemed to be a perfect plan but then- I was thrown in solitary"

"Solitary?" Alice frowned and Simon smiled gently.

"Solitary Confinement, practically a dungeon below the asylum, even lower down in fact than the tunnels. Hero here spent every other day there" Simon snorted, nudging his sister and she rolled her eyes. "It was punishment for wrongdoings, all sorts of mischief occurred down there. And Hero found herself there all the time because she accepted punishment for you Mary Alice" He slipped and Alice frowned.

"For me? W-Why would you do that?"

"I had four years on you Alice, and I'd be damned if I allowed you to become as broken and damaged as I was. I saw you and I thought-- I would want someone to do the same thing for me. The doctors were more than happy to take me instead of you and so, you never saw Solitary Alice" she smiled tightly, squeezing her hand gently and Alice returned with a grateful grin.

"So our new vampire friend took Alice and I instead and promised to come back for Hero. We got a few miles away... When the plan broke down again." Simon frowned, vividly recalling the events of that night. "Your blood, Alice was apparently incredible, to be near you was to want for your blood and we happened to escape on the same night that some nomads were in town. The second they saw you- they wanted you and me being there, put me in danger too. So he turned us, to keep us safe and then fought off the nomads while we transitioned."

"What about Hero?" Edward encouraged and they startled slightly, shocked to find that the others were still there.

"We were in transition, Alice and I, when I realised that my memory seemed to be slipping away. The electrocution therapy degraded your memories but we always reminded one another. I knew that if I didn't go back for Hero- I might not remember that she was even there" there was stress in his eyes even now, as he recalled the events. "And so, during the transition, I had to leave you behind Alice but I promised you I would be back for you. I went back for Hero"

"During your transition?" Carlisle questioned in shock and Simon nodded, cringing even as he remembered the pain.

"I don't know how I managed any of the things that happened that night but I knew I had to save my little sister before it was too late. When I arrived at the asylum again, I had just finished the change and I was so... Hungry, and angry. I am not proud of what I did that night. They call it the Mississippi massacre of 1920" he shook his head though did not receive a single disgusted look from around the room- in fact, they all seemed understanding. "I tore through that place easily, humans are no match for vampires. And then I found Hero, and..."

"I was dying" she blinked. "Particularly harsh day in solitary" she breathed, staring downwards, eyes fixed intently on her shoes.

"And... I turned her."

"You turned her? On your very first day as a vampire?" Jasper blinked in shock and Simon nodded with a frown.

"I do not know how it was possible, but... She's my sister, and she was dying right in front of me so I had to save her. And I did. I turned her and carried her back to where I left you,  Alice... But you weren't there anymore. And we have been looking for you since that day. That was the last time I ever drank human blood. When Hero snapped out of the pain- she refused to hurt humans. And she was starving but... When she snapped from hunger, she drank from an animal and found that it restored her energy. That was when we found out that vampire life didn't have to cause destruction. And that brings us full circle" Simon clapped, purposely having skipped over a large portion of the story.

"It does leave one question though" Rosalie smiled and they turned to her calmly.

"How did you find us?"

"An eighty-five year-long road trip and a lot of vampire aid. In the end, it was one human, Mr J.Jenks that directed us to an Alice Whitlock slash Cullen in  Forks Washington" Hero concluded and despite all that she had just heard, Alice smiled.

"I am so glad that we have been reunited again. I know that I don't remember what happened but- it feels like you belong here. In fact, I know that you do" she stated, eyes bright and assuring which surprised them all. But Alice was always right. "Isn't that right, Carlisle? Esme? They belong here?"

"They certainly do" Carlisle smiled warmly and Hero couldn't help but return it, eyes casting down somewhat shyly and she felt that she would be blushing if that were possible. Who was this man and why did he have such an effect on her? It simultaneously terrified and thrilled her.
