FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
"It didn't get any better for us Kelly siblings from there on out" Simon chuckled and Hero huffed along in agreement, something vaguely solemn about her eyes as she looked over at Alice- her long lost sister, despite being so different now, had the exact same smile as she nodded her encouragement and it warmed Hero's heart to behold. "The townspeople hated us, called us witches... And others loved us, they would call upon us for help- Hero, when she was twelve started helping out at the hospital- she could do more help there than any of the doctors could," Carlisle's eyes- strangely- seemed to light up at this information.
"Everything seemed relatively... Calm for a long time, we would perform our powers, and our dad would beat us around a bit for it" Hero laughed, completely opposing the darkness of her own words, oblivious to the tightening of Carlisle's fist against his knee across from her.
"Until it wasn't" Simon sighed, eyes flicking over to Alice in consideration and she nodded determinedly, leaning into Jasper's arms gently. "When I came home one day, aged nineteen; Hero wasn't there. I was going to tell my father that I intended to move out, to take Hero with me and that he wouldn't have to worry about us anymore but... He had other plans. My father never intended to get rid of us so that we weren't his problem anymore... It was all about revenge. He wanted punishment for the humiliation we had brought him all those years." he informed, gently taking Hero's hand and she allowed him too. "There were people there when I got back... Doctors. And they took me away. When Hero came home- she found the very same fate."
"There was an asylum over the hill; notorious for its cruel and unusual punishments. It mixed males, females, adults of all ages and in my case; children. There were varying degrees of people- people who had been forced there like us, their families bribing the doctors and then there were worse, people who could truly do some damage if they so wished" Hero swallowed.
"They did not go easy on us, in light of sanity. We were given a worse treatment- any and all treatments because we didn't have anybody to govern their actions over us." Simon explained before looking over at his little sister, staring deeply into her eyes for a long moment- receiving only a shake of the head and a blank expression. To the confusion of the others, he stopped whatever he was going to say and merely smiled.
"... I... I met you there, didn't I? The asylum?" Alice questioned, eyes wide and the other two exchanged solemn expressions.
"I am sorry Alice, that your story isn't a nicer one."
"It is okay, none of us has a nice story, do we? Please, keep going" Alice encouraged, taking Hero's hand and the redhead looked her deeply in the eyes, ignoring everyone else in the room.
"Simon and I were there for four years before we met you. You joined us in 1919. Mary Alice Brandon, daughter of Lillian and Edgar Brandon- older sister of Cynthia" Hero assured warmly, squeezing her hand and the pixie vampire swallowed, eyes wide as though she was hypnotised. "You were predicting the future long before vampirism, Alice. You knew when it was going to rain, you always knew. And you knew that when your momma got pregnant- it was a baby girl." Alice's eyes grew watery at the knowledge. "Similarly to us, your mother adored it about you- But your father."
"Hated me for it" Alice sighed.
"No, he feared you. Not everybody wants to know the future before it's happened" Simon winked and Alice smiled tightly. "When you were eighteen, you had a vision... your mother was murdered by a man with a long beard" he continued, recalling all that Alice had told them when they'd first met. "You tried to tell your father but, he dismissed you. He seemed to believe the story that she had died in a road accident. And your father remarried in a frightfully short amount of time"
"He married a younger woman, she wasn't too far off of your age. Anna-Marie. You were instantly suspicious of this woman, you found out that your father had been seeing her long before your mother passed and you deduced that it was Anna-Marie who orchestrated your mother's death. That she did it so that she could be with your father." Hero implored warmly, aware of the way Alice listened intently. "The second you told your father- you had another vision"
"You saw your father paying the same man with the long beard who had killed Lillian- to come after you. Your father killed your mother and he intended to do the same to you... You ran to the town marshal to turn him in, adamant that you were not going to follow the same fate. Only, Edgar and Anna-Marie got there first and they claimed you were deluded, that you claimed to see the future- he claimed you were crazy. The same as Hero and I and they put you in the asylum with us. Where we finally met you" Simon concluded, the height of their story which also happened to be the darkest part.
"How did we become vampires? I don't understand?" she frowned and they all smiled at one another gently, solemnly.
"That is an entire story" Simon scoffed, stretching.
"Well, we don't have anywhere else to be" Esme smiled gently, encouraging Simon who purposely avoided her gaze- making Hero grin.
"Cool! Does that mean we can skip school?" Emmett clapped in excitement, drawing Esme's displeased eyes over to him.
"It's sunny anyway" Jasper gestured and they were all startled to find that darkness had fallen and sunrise was slowly rising once more.
"Well, let's continue then"
