FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
Hero Kelly engulfed large mouthfuls of air to calm her own battling nerves as she walked gently beside Carlisle along the fringe of the treeline. Whatever sudden confidence had inspired her to ask him to walk with her was now long gone, and instead, she was left with a shuddery unease as her brain reeled in a bid to work out what to say. The man beside her seemed calm, walking easily with his expensive shoes crushing the leaves as though the uncomfortable atmosphere didn't affect him at all- his calm eased her.
"Carlisle" she breathed after a long moment and his beautiful blazing cold eyes flickered up to her, smiling despite the nervousness that was painted over her features. "I- I don't actually know what to say. Everything is all confused. " she waved her hand around her head in something of a gesture, her hyperactive nervousness making him smile slightly as their walking ground to a halt. Slowly, he reached his pale hands up and stopped them an inch from her- receiving a hesitant nod from the woman, the doctor gently placed his hands on her shoulders, guiding her to look at him.
"Hero" Carlisle soothed in a voice that instantly melted her, her eyes lightening- much to his awe. "Tell me what is confused. Whatever you are thinking, it is okay" he implored, thumbs stroking over her shoulders gently, feeling the marvellous texture of her curls against the back of his hand.
"Did Alice tell you what she saw... About us?" she stuttered, voice incredibly shallow as she stared at his perfectly straight tie- just to give her somewhere to look beside his swirling golden orbs.
"She did. And I want you to know Hero, that I am not going to do anything, not unless you want to. We can just be friends if that is what you are worried about? Just because destiny depicts one thing does not mean you must abide by it" he assured and startled, her gaze snapped up to his eyes that swirled with a million emotions- there was sincerity there, he would really reprieve himself of his own happiness if that was what she wanted. The thought of his selflessness made her heart clench, the pain in his eyes prevalent even as he wiped it from his face and voice.
"No, Carlisle that's not what I'm saying... Um- Unless... Is that what you want?" she frowned, feeling oddly as though they were running around in circles. His face brightened, a small smile stretching on his lips when she said that.
"No, Hero. That is not what I would like but if that is what you desire, then I will abide by that" there was so much truth in his eyes that she knew he wasn't lying- she couldn't help but trust him, he was the most genuine person she had ever met.
"No" she shook her head, small laugh leaving her lips before she closed her eyes to collect herself. "See what I meant by this being all confused?... But. I don't want it to be anymore. I don't want to avoid you or pretend that I just want to be friends with you, Carlisle. I don't know what destiny has in store for us but I know myself and I know that I am ready to start this adventure. I cannot promise you that I can give you whatever you want, but I want to try, for you. The second I saw you, I knew that you were going to be the one to make me change and I've grown to realise that I want you to be." she exhaled before allowing her eyes to open sincerely, hoping that he would understand her reasoning. Carlisle's face slipped into one of consideration before he spoke his own opinion calmly.
"Hero. I have been alive for three centuries; searching for the person I was destined to be with, watching my children find one another. I can wait centuries more for you. You are the one and I would sacrifice everything for you. I know that you haven't had it easy and I am going to do my very best to ensure that you never suffer a single ounce of pain more. I won't make you any promises, because I would be shattered if I were for any reason implored to break them. But know that I would never hurt you, Hero. Never. You, in just a single second, became the most important thing in the world to me and I am ready to be to you whatever you need, whatever you want. To listen to whatever you want to say and not pester for the things you aren't ready for. We have forever Hero, and we don't have to take this adventure at full speed."
"You truly are incredible Carlisle, I don't know how I could possibly ever have said no to what you offer." Hero smiled, eyes watery as she reached up gently and placed her hand on his chest, fingers against his lab coat and eyes pinned intently on her own hand. Gently, Carlisle reached up and placed his large hand over hers which rested over his unbeating heart. "You make everything worth it" she whispered, her tearful eyes locking with his, tears that would never fall. "Carlisle."
"Hero"
"Will you hold me?" she breathed and he blinked at her for a second before pulling her close. Hero's arms wound around his neck with a furious intensity as she clung to him, forced up onto her tiptoes to reach and Carlisle wound his arms tightly around her slender body, hair pressing into her curls as he breathed in the glorious scent that was Hero Kelly. That night, the stars aligned as they stood in one another's tight embrace and it wasn't like new friends hugging for the first time- it was like long since separated finally being reunited. Hero and Carlisle's hearts had been made for one another and on that night, the two puzzle pieces finally reconnected.
