FORKS WASHINGTON, 2005
The Cullen mansion stood calm for the first time in many days and Carlisle finally allowed a sigh of relief to slip from his lips as his golden orbs scanned the beautiful greenery of the forest beyond the window. Finally, their family was safe once more and that was all he could ever wish for- peace and happiness. Carlisle liked boring days because boring days meant that they were safe.
When two slender arms slid around his waist from behind, his calm expression split into one of happiness. It didn't matter that he had not known her for very long, Carlisle Cullen knew with almost certainty that the girl currently under his grip had completed him in every possible way. Turning, he was graced with her beautiful face. Hero Kelly was undoubtedly the most stunning person he had ever had the pleasure of meeting and the action of taking her cheeks softly in his hands was completely habitual. His forehead found a place against hers and there was no greater feeling in the world that the feeling of her standing there, being all his with the promise of eternity on the horizon.
"I'm glad everything worked itself out" she breathed, though what she really meant was that she was glad James was dead- she wasn't sure Carlisle would appreciate that way of speaking. James was the one that had caused their immortality in the first place if James hadn't of caused Cal to turn Simon- Hero would likely have been dead in the asylum at the age of nineteen, long before they could even come back to rescue her. Though, she could never find it in her to thank James for the chain that he had involuntarily caused... Because he had also killed their saviour. When James' head had been ripped from his body by the Cullens a few weeks ago: Simon had bid goodbye to Cal for the last time and as bittersweet as it was- they knew he was somewhere better now, he was in peace.
"We're all safe now" Carlisle assured, running a thumb over her jawline and tilting her head upwards to look deeply into those beautiful pools of gold that she called eyes. He knew then so well now, saw them in his mind even when he wasn't trying to and he was sure that if it was possibly- he would dream of her beautiful face.
"Good" she mused in a hum and he returned it as his fingers continued to caress the softness of her face in soothing patterns- after a seconds thought, she spoke again. She said a few little words that warmed his heart infinitely- the words that made him feel so human. And he adored every single one of them as they danced across her tongue. "Carlisle... I love you"
"I love you too, Hero Kelly" it was instantaneous, his response because he didn't need a moment to consider it. Carlisle knew for certain that he loved the beautiful redhead in his arms and the infectious grin that she sent him when he said that made him positively melt on the spot.
"Kiss me" it was such a gentle order from her, though one he was more than happy to accept as the sun peaked over the swaying tree line beyond the wall of glass. Their lips caressed one another's so perfectly, as though they had been moulded for one another, two pieces of the same statue. Nothing had ever felt so perfect or exhilarating as the feeling of kissing one another and when Hero's fingers came up to wind around his neck calmly, it felt perfectly normal. It felt as though it had always meant to be.
And it was the happiest moment of their lives so far, standing there in the sunshine with their lips seeled- knowing that they loved one another infinitely.
Carlisle Cullen knew for certain that he would spend his entire life Loving Hero.
