Ok, so I've been listening to the Atomic Habits book and although I've watched videos inspired by its principles, I couldn't quite grasp it as much as I did reading it myself, or rather listening.
The most important concepts from that book that I've found to be the most helpful, at least in the first 2 chapters, is that our habits are a way for our conscious mind to relieve some of the cognitive load on our brains; hence, the unconscious mind takes over once a habit is formed. Habits form because when we try things out and end up with a reward or a pleasurable feeling, our brain saves or categorizes the actions that lead to the feeling; therefore, learns that whenever a cue for that action is presented, it creates a craving for that pleasurable feeling. Then, you do the response as in the action of obtaining that craving, and finally gain the reward once more.That is why whenever you want to create a habit, you need to do 4 things :
1- make it obvious (cue).
2- make it attractive (craving).
3- make it easy (response).
4- make it satisfying (reward).And if you'd like to quit bad habits, you'll need to invert those laws :
1- make it invisible ( avoid the cues/ triggers for that habit as much as possible ).
2- make it unattractive ( link it to a consequence that could affect your image badly ).
3- make it difficult ( you might delete an app from your phone if you want to make it difficult to go on it ).
4- make it unsatisfying ( try to not complete the action even if you started it so that your brain may detach the reward from that certain action ).There you guys have it.. I think Kalyn Nicholson has mentioned this in one of her videos before, but I don't think I've referenced it.🤔
