"From This Day Forward (Part 3 to One Night Stand)"

"Apologize"

Dennis walked up to the foyer steps to check who it was. He peered through the peephole.

Summer: Who is it?
Dennis: Looks like a big guy. I'd say about 6'1''...Know any big guys?

Only one name crossed Summer's mind. Jay.

Dennis: He's holding a duffel bag & a bouquet of flowers. That's odd... Wait, is this your...
Summer: Let me see.

Dennis stepped aside to let Summer peek through the peephole. Summer tiptoed up to the peephole.

Summer: It's Jay...

She stepped back down & looked at Dennis. She stared into his light gray eyes & without a word it seemed like she was crying for help.

Dennis: What do you want to do?
Summer: I don't know...

Jay knocked again & Summer's phone started to ring. Summer was trying not to panic. She didn't want to face him, but she didn't want him standing out there all night.

Dennis: You want me to talk to him?
Summer: No, I don't want to involve you.
Dennis: I can tell him to leave. If that's what you want.

Summer tiptoed up again. Jay was still there. She knew he wasn't going to leave.

Summer: How'd he know I was here?
Dennis: Summer, he cant stay out there all night.
Summer: I know... I'll go out there & talk to him.

Dennis grabbed his jacket & placed it around her. She looked at him & thought it was really sweet of him.
Summer: Thanks, Dennis.
Dennis: I'll be here if you need anything.

Summer nodded & then reached for the doorknob to open the door. Jay's face lit up when Summer stepped outside.

Summer: Jay, what are you doing here?
Jay: Summer, please don't say anything until you hear me out first.

The front door was cracked open & Dennis stood behind the door listening in on the conversation.
Summer nodded & let Jay talk.

Jay: I'm so so sorry. I should've been honest with you. I made a huge mistake & I'm sorry.

He handed Summer the flowers & hugged her. Summer could feel a couple of his tears drop on to her head. They sat on the steps in front of the house. From what Dennis heard, there was a lot of crying & it seemed that they both had resolved their relationship issue. He decided he heard enough & walked away to his room to get ready for bed.

Jay: Summer, I love you & I want to spend my whole life proving that.
Summer: Jay, I'm just too hurt...
Jay: What can we do to fix this?
Summer: I don't know.
Jay: Do you still want to be with me?
Summer: I don't know if I can trust you.

For the next hour or so, Jay & Summer talked it out. He kept bringing up how faithful he was to her from day one & how she shouldn't let one mistake take it all away. She thought about how much of her life was invested in him & how they did love each other. She decided to take him back & forgive him. At the end of their conversation, Jay kissed her, but it felt different.

They eventually went in the cottage & soon went to bed. As Summer pillowed her head, not only did Jay's snoring keep her up, but also the thought of if she made the right choice or not in staying with him. Dennis was in the room next door & was also having trouble sleeping. He was sure & hopeful that there was something between he & Summer, but after tonight, he wasn't so sure anymore.
