Grandma: Sweetheart, how many times have I told you? The square platters have to go with the square bowls otherwise...
Jack: They won't fit & they might crack. I know. I know.
Grandma: Well frankly, dear, there's a difference between knowing & doing.
Jack gave Grandma a look as if to say he's heard enough. Grandma calmed down, smiled & apologized.
Grandma: Look at us, acting like a bunch of newlyweds. I'm sorry, Jack. It's been decades since I've lived with a man.
Jack: You're so damn stubborn, independent, hard-headed...
Grandma: What else?
Jack: Oh babe, the list goes on & on. But you know what?
Jack stood behind Nora & wrapped his arms around her body & nuzzled his nose up to her face.
Jack: I love all those things about you. I can't get enough...
They started kissing & get interrupted when Serena carries Miranda in the kitchen for some breakfast.
Jack: Good morning, lovely ladies!
Serena: Good morning!
Grandma picks Miranda up, freeing Serena's arms. She then hands Serena a steaming hot cup of coffee.
Grandma: Here, sweetheart.
Serena: Thanks, Grandma. I definitely need this. Miranda is usually a lot of work, but last night she was extra fussy. Don't get me wrong. I sure do love motherhood & I get why you only had one child, Grandma.
Grandma: It's work for sure!
Serena: Relationships are a ton of work too it seems.
Grandma: You got that right.
Serena: You'd think two people were perfect for each other & then life throws curve balls their way. All you can do is just pray & hope it all works out.
Grandma: Everything ok with you & Brian?
Serena: Oh, we're fine. I was talking about Summer & Jay.
Grandma: What about Summer & Jay?
Serena had a worried look on her face & she hesitated to speak up.
Grandma: Serena, if Summer's in trouble we need to help her.
Serena finally told Grandma that Jay had been cheating on Summer. Grandma was still on Jay's defense saying that Stephen, her son was like a father to Jay. She went on about how Stephen wanted Jay to marry Summer.
Serena: But I thought you said we needed to help Summer.
Grandma: We can't be sure of these things, Serena. Sometimes Summer doesn't know what she wants. She needs a strong, independent & good man like Jay.
Serena: Good man? He cheated on her.
Grandma: These are allegations. I had my doubts about him before & he's proved himself otherwise. Besides, love is about forgiveness & trust. Summer is just learning how to do both. Serena, if this is about jealousy...
Serena: I'm not jealous.
Grandma paused & stood from the table. She looked sternly at Serena.
Grandma: Serena, you will not stand in the way of your sister's happily ever after.
Grandma was upset & stormed out do the room.
Serena was upset & honestly worried about Summer. Summer was stuck & needed help. She just didn't know how help her sister. She muttered to herself after Grandma had left.
Serena: I'm not the one standing in her way. You are...
Later that day, Brian was finally brought home after a long few days at the hospital. Dylan & Michie has gone to the hospital to spring him out. The nurses & patients would miss Brian's cheerful disposition & charming personality. He was a big hit in the recovery wing.
Serena & Miranda came to his apartment to surprise him with dinner that evening. Serena helped keep Brian comfortable as she offered to fluff his pillow a few times. Brian gently held Serena's hand & thanked her, but stopped her from over-spoiling him with attention. Miranda was fussy half-way through dinner & Serena had to take her to a separate room so that everyone could enjoy their meal.
Dylan: Whoa! She's got strong lungs.
Michie: A future singer, that one.
Dylan: Do you ever get tired of the crying?
Brian: Actually... No. Miranda's just too cute that it cancels out all the bad things.
Serena overheard all that Brian said about Miranda & her heart melted. Serena finished up feeding Miranda & quietly slipped out of the room, leaving Miranda sound asleep in Brian's room.
Brian (whispering): Hey... How'd it go?
Serena flashed a thumbs up Brian's way. Brian nodded & smiled. Michie hit Dylan's chest & motioned for him to follow her.
Michie: Let's let them have some alone time.
Dylan: Oh right...
Michie: Enjoy the movie, guys. We're gonna go for a walk.
Serena: Oh, bye.
Brian: Bye.
Serena sat next to Brian on the couch & she felt at ease laying her head on his shoulder. Brian then extended his arm around Serena. She fit perfectly in his embrace. Serena brought up how concerned she was for Summer. She unloaded everything she knew about Summer & Jay's relationship to Brian. He was always such a good listener. He never interrupted & always made sure to make eye contact to let you know he was interested in what you were saying.
Serena: I just don't know how to help my sister.
Brian: Hey, wasn't that Dennis guy totally into her?
Serena: Yeah, he was. They'd be perfect for each other.
Brian: I can't forget how great their duet was at the wedding. They looked so good together. You should contact Dennis & see if you could set him & Summer up.
Serena: He's all the way in Tennessee.
Brian: If you were on the other sides of the planet, I'd cross mountains & oceans to get to you. If someone really cares, they'd go through lengths just to be with their person. Consider a test. If he truly cares for Summer or even loves her, he'll find a way.
Serena was relieved that she talked to Brian about Summer's situation. She laid her head back on Brian's shoulder & the two enjoyed the rest of the movie. As the movie was ending, Brian remembered what he saw at the hospital when he was walking around. The image of Antonio & Serena drinking coffee still bothered him. Sure, they were just drinking coffee, but is coffee ever just coffee? He withdrew his arm back & Serena turned her head in surprise.
Serena: Everything ok?
Brian: Serena, I saw you talking with Antonio the other day. I wasn't going to say anything, but it's been on my mind.
Serena: I can explain.
Brian: I'm not usually jealous, but... I can't help it. You two have a history together.
Serena: We do. You're right. I should've told you, but honestly, Brian, it was nothing. We talked about the kids & about Gabby, Manny's mom.
Brian: That's it?
Serena: We talked about you.
Brian: Me?
Serena smiled & placed her hand on Brian's chest. Brian was trying to stifle his smile.
Serena: Brian, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to the two of us. There's no one else for me. I've dated out there. And like what I told Antonio, I'M the lucky one.
Brian: No, I'M the lucky one.
Serena: What if we're both lucky?
Brian: Huh?
Serena gave Brian a look & it was enough of a hint for him to know that they were both going to get lucky that night.
