Summer had to schedule a d & c. It was the most numbing event she's ever had to face. She went through so much over the past year, but this was the most heartbreaking. She had given motherhood a lot of thought during the time she had first suspected that she was pregnant. She dreamed of what her baby would look like. She dreamed of having a little girl with Jay's beautiful, gray eyes & her dark brown hair. She fought through the pain of having her ex's baby & was actually looking forward to raising this baby even if it meant that she'd have to do it alone.
To hear that she had been carrying around a stillborn baby this whole time had shocked her & broke her. The doctor had explained that even in the event of a miscarriage that women can still experience symptoms of pregnancy. Which is why she was still feeling nauseated & emotional. She broke down & called her grandma while she waited for her procedure. This was the last straw for Summer & she needed her grandma now more than ever.
Grandma felt guilty for pushing Summer to stay with Jay. She should've stuck to her guts from the get-go. She never really liked Jay at all. Stephen, Summer's father did favor Jay. Summer realized that the reason why she had stayed with Jay even through all the obvious red flags was because in a way Jay reminded her of her father. They were both marines. They were both fond of some of the same things such as music, football & Summer. Jay was infatuated with Summer & had to admit, he wasn't the marrying type. He wasn't prepared to settle down with anyone even if he had convinced himself that he loved Summer.
Grandma sat & wept after getting off of the phone with Summer. She spoke to Jack & they both knew the only thing to do was to fly to Virginia to pick Summer up, rent a U-haul & drive back to Seattle together. Grandma explained Summer's situation to Serena. Serena didn't take it too well either. She knew Summer was in trouble, but not to this extent. Serena broke down in tears & expressed her desire to accompany Grandma & Jack on their trip east. Grandma talked her out of it & told her to stay back in Seattle for school & for Miranda.
Grandma & Jack only packed the bare essentials & were soon ready for their flight. Serena held Miranda while Brian helped Jack roll the luggages to the foyer. Grandma kissed Serena's forehead & hugged her. She then reached for Miranda & held her tight.
Grandma: Now don't you hit any milestones while I'm gone. You hear me... I love you, munchkin.
Jack: The Uber is here, honey.Grandma: Ok, Jack.
Jack gave his round of good byes & started to load the Uber.
Grandma: You all take care. We'll be back soon.
Brian held both Serena & Miranda close.
Brian: You have nothing to worry about here, Grandma.
Serena: We're in good hands, Grandma. You take care & kick that SOB in the a... butt for me.
Grandma: Oh you know I will.
Serena: Bring her home.
Grandma nodded one more time & then headed into the Uber to join Jack.Serena, Miranda & Brian stood on the porch & watched as the Uber drove off.
Brian: Are you ok?
Serena: She's just gone through hell. I wish there was something I could've done.
Brian: Hey, don't blame yourself. You've helped her by calling Dennis & setting up Operation Save Summer. You came up with that. You're the best sister for Summer & the best mama for this cutie.Brian eskimo-kissed Miranda.
Serena: Thanks, Brian.
Brian turned to kiss Serena & reassured her that Summer would be fine.
The whole trip over to Virginia, Grandma gabbed to Jack about how she was going to get her hands on Jay & how she would hurt him like he had hurt Summer. Jack just kept his mouth shut & let her talk it out. She was obviously upset & angry at the entire situation. Summer didn't have time to give Grandma all the details about how she & Jay broke up.
Summer's procedure was quick & over before she knew it. She woke up & found herself in the recovery room. She took a shower & sat back in the hospital bed. She was sore & not to mention a bit traumatized by the experience. She was allotted a few hours in the recovery wing, but had to be discharged before the evening. A nurse came in to see if she needed any assistance. Summer didn't need any help. She was really anxious to see Grandma though. The nurse was compassionate although she didn't hold a long conversation. She cleared Summer to be discharged & Summer was set to leave.
Summer was fine up until she reached the parking lot & got into her car. She leaned against the steering wheel & broke into tears. She sobbed until she had no more tears left to cry.
