The next morning, Summer woke up to a sound of truck beds opening & closing outside. She was still upset with Jay. He was nowhere to be found in the room. She was going to venture downstairs to see if he was home at all when she was distracted by a sound outside. She got up & peeked out the window. She saw Jay loading the truck with camping gear. She opened the window & called out to Jay. He turned around with a smile & told her to get ready & come downstairs.
Jay: Get dressed & packed. We're going camping, baby!
Her anger towards him melted away as she quickly pulled out a bag to pack. She got dressed & met him outside. It turns out that Jay had been planning a quick getaway to bring Summer camping because he remembered that she had never been camping. Summer never told Jay about the romantic camping set up Dennis had prepared for her for her birthday a week ago. She knew he'd be jealous & would throw a fit about it. Devon, Krystal, George & Nat all cane along on the camp trip. It was a belated birthday weekend celebration for Summer.
They caravanned up to a camp sight about half a hour away from Quantico. It was a beautiful place surrounded by trees. It reminded Summer a lot of Washington. Jay parked by their campsite & looked at Summer.
Jay: What do you think?
Summer: It's beautiful.
Jay: Just you wait. You're gonna love it.Jay hopped out & unloaded three truck bed. Nat & Krystal came to the truck to greet Summer.
Krystal: Hey birthday girl!
Summer got out of the truck to greet her friends. They ventured around while the boys pitched the tents. Nat kept smacking his arms & legs.
Nat: Ugh! I hate mosquitos.
Krystal: They seem to love you.
Nat: Haha funny...Summer handed Nat a bottle of mosquito repellent.
Nat: Thanks, babe. Hopefully this stuff works.
Krystal: So Sum, this is your first time going camping?
Summer: Um... Real camping.
Nat: Real camping?Summer saw an old cabin up ahead & picked up the pace. She quickly changed the subject by motioning for Nat & Krystal to follow her. It was a welcome station for visitors. The cabin was filled with pamphlets & info about the camp grounds. There were photos hung up that showed the history of the camp grounds. The park ranger greeted them & showed them around the camp grounds. He brought them to the fire pit, outdoor stadium, sporting event center & lake. They thanked the ranger for the time he took to give them the quick tour.
Ranger: My pleasure. My name's Joe if you need anything.
Krystal: Thanks, Joe.
Nat: Oh! One more question. Where's the little girls room?
Ranger: Oh, that's right. The outhouse is right by the campsite & is only up hill from where you were all pitching your tents.
Nat: Outhouse... Great. Thanks. They walked full circle back to their campsite to see what else the boys needed help with.
Jay finished setting his tent up & then Devon finished setting his tent soon afterwards. They both looked over at George who seemed to be struggling. They lent him a hand & while they were helping George out, they joked about how thin the tent walls were in relation to the sounds their partners would make during intercourse. The girls arrived right when they were throwing jokes around.
Krystal: Devon Marshall Williams the third, if you think we're having sex in this old tent, you're out of your damn mind.
George & Jay stifled their laughter as Devon hung his head in embarrassment.
Devon: No, baby, that wasn't me. That was George.
George stopped laughing & hit Devon in the chest. The boy exited the tent & were met by the annoyed expressions outside.
Devon held & kissed Krystal to beg for forgiveness.
Nat: No worries here, I'm down for a good time, babe. Just as long as the mosquitoes don't enter the tent.
George: The only thing biting you will be me, Natty...Jay looked over at Summer & then over at their friends. He swayed everyone over to the basketball court to play. Summer waited for Jay to hold & kiss her like the other guys did. She was wondering why he wasn't as touchy as usual. He was always all over her & could barely keep his hands off of her. Although she felt that something was different between she & Jay, she shrugged it off & thought it must just all be in her mind.
After a competitive game of basketball, the friends went exploring on a hike around the camp area. Devon & Krystal led the way. Jay & Summer marched behind them & George & Nat we're trailing behind them all. Summer looked at how Devon & Krystal hiked hand in hand. She reached over for Jay's hand, but he refused holding her saying he was all sweaty.
Jay: Babe, my hands are all sweaty. I don't wanna get you dirty.
Summer: Oh... ok.Summer placed her hands in her shorts' pockets. Nat looked at the exchange of words between Summer & Jay. He whispered over to George about what had happened. George shushed Nat & told him not to get involved.
Nat: But she's my girl.
George: I know, hon', but it's best not to get involved.Nat couldn't help but observe Jay more throughout the hike. Jay was acting differently towards Summer. Nat felt sorry for his friend.
There was a beautiful lake at the end of their hiking trail. Devon got excited & hyped everyone up about swimming in the lake. He grabbed Krystal & playfully tossed her in the lake before he jumped in himself. Jay sat off to the side & waded his feet in the water. Summer wanted to go in. She watched as Krystal & Devon splashed & swam around. They were laughing & beckoning for everyone to join them. George grabbed Nat by the hips.
Nat: Oh! Don't you dare throw me in, Georgie. I'm wearing Calvin Klein.
George: Come on...
Nat: Go ahead, I'll watch you swim from here.George cannonballed in. Jay removed his shirt & jumped in as well. Summer was left sitting on the side. Nat sat next to her. Summer forced a smile on her face. George & Jay started a race from one end of the lake to the other. Nat cheered George on.
Nat: Hey, are you ok?
Summer: Yeah, why?
Nat: Nothing...
