A Royal Rescue

I know this is short and I'm sorry, I'll try to post something else tomorrow!

Thomas ran his hand through his hair, feeling exhausted. It was two months after May died and he's been trying to keep the twins happy while also doing his work.

"Your highness, you should go to bed," Patton told him, "It's getting late."

"'M fine," Thomas mumbled as he rubbed his face.

"You need to take care of yourself. How can you look after your kingdom if you're not well."

"I'll be fine, I just need to read over these documents first."

Patton sighed and walked up to his desk. He held out his hand to Thomas, telling him, "Here, let's get you to bed."

"But the documents-"

"Can wait until tomorrow, your highness."

Thomas sighed and took his hand. Patton led him back to his room and helped him into bed.

After that, he went to his own room to go to sleep. Patton had been working there for 10 years now as a butler. His likable nature helped him become friends with Thomas and May. He was told to take a leave of absence to grieve over her death and did for a couple of days, but he quickly came back to help support the boys.

He refuses to go to bed until Thomas and the twins were in bed, he refuses to let their health decline.

Patton hugged a pillow to his chest and curled up as he fell asleep.

The next day, he ghosted Thomas around like always. He was always there whenever Thomas needed a helping hand.

"I brought you some tea, your highness," Patton told him, carrying a tray to him.

"Ah, Patton, thank you." Thomas took the cup of tea and sipped it slowly as he read a document. "What are Roman and Remus doing?"

"They're probably in the garden, do you want me to go check on them?"

"Yeah, please make sure they're alright."

"Of course."

Patton handed the tray to a maid and asked her to take it back to the kitchen before he went to go look for the twins.

He found them at May's grave, leaning against her statue asleep. He went up to them and rubbed their shoulders.

"Hey kiddos, are you guys okay?" Patton asked.

Remus rubbed his eyes and yawned, "Yeah, just sleepy."

"Do you want to go to your rooms to sleep? I'm sure it's a lot more comfortable."

"No, don't wanna leave mom," Roman slurred, half asleep. "She gets lonely."

Patton smiled sympathetically. "Okay, well then here, let's do this." Patton picked them up and moved in between them. He set them on his lap and leaned back against the statue. "There, is that more comfortable?"

Roman and Remus nodded, leaning against him before falling asleep again. Patton made sure they stayed comfortable before he eventually found himself nodding off.

A few hours later, a maid found them and woke them up gently.

"Prince Remus? Prince Roman? Patton? It's time for supper," she told them.

"Already?" Patton asked, rubbing his eye.

"Yes, already. Let's get you guys cleaned up."

"I don't wanna walk," Remus whined.

Patton stood up and stretched. "Come on you two, you need food."

"But we're tired," Roman told him.

"Okay then, I'm picking you two up." Patton reached down and picked them both up, holding them both in one arm against his side.

Roman and Remus giggled as Patton brought them inside, the maid close by just in case Patton dropped one of them.

They got cleaned up and Patton walked them towards the dining table where Thomas was waiting for them.

Patton left to go get his own dinner and quickly finished it. He came back just as the twins finished their food.

"Patton," Thomas asked him, "Can you watch the boys for the rest of the day? I need to get some work done."

"Sure! Don't forget to drink water while you work!" Patton reminded him, "I'll take care of the little kiddos."

For the next week, Thomas would as Patton to take care of Roman and Remus for the day. Patton was there to keep them safe and made sure they had fun. He would play with them and made sure they ate.

Eventually, Thomas asked Patton to continue to take care of his sons. Patton quickly agreed, already bonding with them so quickly. And Roman and Remus didn't complain, in no time Patton became part of their family.
