- Time skip -
(Ik there are a lot of time skips but if there isnt this books gonna be way too long 😆🙈😅)"What are we doing for your birthday tomorrow?" Edmund heard Lucy saying from the kitchen as he walked down the stairs, yawning as he rubbed his eyes.
He reached the kitchen door in time to see Peter smile. "Spending the day at the park." He answered. "With a picnic."
Lucy beamed, and Edmund swore that sometimes she got more excited about other peoples birthdays than her own.
"I can't believe you're gonna be 16 tomorrow." Their Mum laughed. "You're all growing up. Susan will be 15 in December, Lucy's already 8, nearly 9, and Edmund's 12."
Peter rolled his eyes in amusement before spotting Edmund stood in the doorway. "You not dressed yet?" He asked at seeing that Edmund was still in his pyjamas.
"I've just woke up." Edmund grumbled in reply as he sat at the table next to Susan.Peter sighed a little but couldn't help a small smile when Lucy chuckled.
"Aren't you glad though that you don't have school on your 16th." Susan said with a small smile.
"You can say that again." Peter replied.
"Why don't they have school?" Lucy asked curiously. "Why are they back early?"
Their Mum hesitated slightly before sighing. "I supposed you'll find out sooner or later." She mumbled. "Alright. They've been sent home from school early because there's a threat of the germans bombing London and surrounding areas."
Lucy's eyes went wide in alarm. "What?!" She said.
"We don't know that it will happen for definite though." Peter quickly stepped in.
Lucy nodded slowly.
"Hopefuly it doesn't." Susan said with a sigh.
"Hopefully." Edmund muttered under his breath, before they all went back to their breakfast.
The next day came quickly, and before they knew it the four of them and their Mum were sat at the park on a blanket.
Susan was laying on her back, eyes closed, Lucy was going through a book that she'd gotten for Christmas for about the fourth time, Edmund was sat leaning against the nearest tree, staring up and obviously wondering if he could climb it.
Their Mum was busy sorting out the food and Peter was helping her, even though she insisted that it was his birthday and he really didn't need too.
After a minute or two the food was ready, and Peter looked up to call Edmumd, only to see him sat on the second branch of the tree, his legs dangling below him.
"Ed!" He exclaimed. "What are you doing?!"
Edmund looked down at him. "What does it look like I'm doing." He said with a roll of his eyes. "I'm climbing a tree."
Peter glared at him. "Come down." He said. "The foods ready."
Edmund sighed but jumped down from the tree anyway, joining them.
Peter glanced at his Mum and they both shared an amused look before Edmund spoke.
"I don't see why it's so terrible for me to be climbing a tree." He muttered. "You hate it when I do."
Peter raised an eyebrow. "I don't hate it." He said. "It just makes me uncomfortable."
"Only because I broke my arm doing it." Edmund muttered. "But that was years ago!"
Peter rolled his eyes, unable to stop himself from thinking back to that moment.Peter was sat in the living room, waiting rather impatiently for his Dad and Edmund to come back from the hospital.
His Mum kept telling him that it was just a broken arm and that everything would be fine, but Peter wouldn't believe her.
Edmund had been absolutely freezing and had hit his head as well as broken his arm, and Peter wouldn't calm down until he saw him.
It was probably around three hours later when the door opened, and Peter's head snapped up from the book he'd been reading at the time.
He threw it onto the sofa before running out into the hallway, to see his Dad and Edmund, Edmund's arm now in a cast.
"What did they say?" Peter asked quickly.
His Dad raised an eyebrow in amusement and chuckled slightly. "Edmund's gonna be fine." He reassured him. "They warmed him up, said the bang to his head should be fine, he just has to take it easy for a few days... and they said that he has to keep that cast on for 6 weeks."
Peter looked slightly shocked. "6 weeks?!" He exclaimed.
"I dont mind." Edmund said suddenly, smiling. "It looks cool."
Peter stared at him before shaking his head and laughing slightly. "Of course you'd think that."
Next thing there Mum had walked out from where she'd been in the kitchen. "I thought I heard you two." She said, before looking down at Edmund. "You alright?" She asked, looking slightly worried.
Edmund nodded. "I got a cast." He said.
Helen chuckled a little. "So you did." She said.
"Does it still hurt?" Peter asked.
Edmund looked up at him and shrugged. "A little." He said with a nod.
"Well," Helen said after a moment. "Dinners ready."
Peter smiled. "Come on Ed.""Peter!? Pete!"
Peter was snapped out of his thoughts by his brothers voice. "Yeah?" He asked.
Edmund rolled his eyes. "Idoit." He muttered.
Peter sighed a little. "Sorry." He muttered, turning to his sisters who both looked rather worried. "Daydreaming."
Lucy giggled slightly before reaching for some food, Susan following.
Edmund sighed as he did too, looking at Peter when he saw his brother look down, his hand in his pocket obviously gripping something, and Edmund knew what.
It was the letter from Dad, for Peter's birthday.
Edmund watched Peter carefully as he slipped his hand from his pocket, forced back the tears that filled his eyes, put on a smile and reached for some food.
Edmund swallowed hard, he knew that Peter hated how their Dad wasn't here for his birthday, and the fact that he wasn't here for his 16th birthday, made it worse.
Edmund sighed as he ate, watching Peter and actually for once, feeling sorry for him.☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡
