- Short time skip (Lucy's now just turned 9) -
Edmund let out a bored sigh as he sat on the sofa one night, unsure what to do.
Peter was upstairs studying, as usual, Susan and his mum were in the kitchen washing up the dishes from earliers dinner and Lucy had just gone up to bed.
He glanced around and spotted his book laying on the table beside the sofa, and came to a decision to read a few chapters before he had to go to bed.
He stood from where he'd been sat and walked over to the table, only for his head to snap up when he heard he air-raid siren start.
His eyes went wide, but instead of immediately making his way out the house and into the bomb shelter, he ran over to the window.
Pulling back the curtains he knelt on the window seat and peered up at the sky, just about being able to see the planes in the distance.
He managed to watch them for around 30 seconds before his mum came running into the room. "Edmund!" She exclaimed at seeing him in front of the window. "Get away from there!"
He stumbled slightly as he was pulled away to stand on the floor, his mum gripping his shoulders. "What do you think you are doing?!" She exclaimed, sounding more worried than angry. "Peter!"
Edmund would've rolled his eyes in any other situation, of course she would call Peter.
No more than five seconds later Peter rushed into the room, looking rather frantic as he burst through the door.
"Peter quickly," Their mum shouted. "The shelter!"
Edmund's eyes went wide and he went to reach for a picture frame on the table, but was too slow and was instead grabbed by Peter who began dragging him towards the door. "No, wait!" He screamed.
"Come on!" Peter shouting, tugging harder. "Leave it!"
In the end, Edmund had no choice and aloud himself to be dragged from the room and to the front door.
Susan and Lucy came running down the stairs and the five of them rushed outside, towards the bomb shelter at the end of the garden.
They'd just reached it when Edmund changed his mind. "Wait!" He shouted. "Dad!"
He felt Peter grab his shirt, but managed to pull out of his grip and run back towards the house, despite Peter and his mum's screams.
He burst through the front door and headed back to the living room, hearing Peter following behind him.
He soon entered the room and ran as fast as he could towards the table, reaching for the picture of his Dad.
He just grabbed it when there was a panicked yell from his brother, before he felt arms wrap around his chest and he was tackled to the floor.
He heard glass shattering, and groaned slightly when he made impact with the floor.
He had no time at all to recover before Peter was back on his feet, tugging on his arm and screaming at him to get out.
He reached out for the picture frame again, having dropped it after the window exploded, not standing until he'd grabbed it.
The second he was on his feet Peter pushed him in front and towards the door, keeping a hand on his shoulder as they ran outside and towards the bomb shelter.
The second they reached it he was shoved to the floor, landing with a hard thud as he tried to catch his breath.
"Why can't you think of anyone but yourself!" Peter shouted at him. "You're so selfish! You could've got us killed!"
"Stop it!"
Edmund glanced at his mum, who after giving Peter a firm look turned to him and helped him to sit up.
"Why can't you just do as you're told?" Peter added, quieter this time.
Edmumd glared up at him, still panting slightly as Peter turned and slammed the door.
"Edmund."
Edmund swallowed hard and glanced up at his Mum, who had a rather firm look on her face. "Why did you do that?" She asked. "You could've gotten seriously hurt."
Edmund stared at her for a moment before sighing and looking down and the floor, shrugging his shoulders.
"Not just you, Peter could've gotten hurt as well." His Mum added.
Edmund hesitantly looked up at his brother, he had sat down against the door, taking deep breaths as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Sorry." Edmund choked, looking at the floor.
His Mum nodded a little. "Just don't do it again." She sighed.
Edmund nodded. "I won't." He said, gripping the picture frame as tightly as he dared, not wanting to cut himself on the broken glass.
"Are - Are you okay?"
Edmund looked up at the sound of his younger sisters voice, and slowly nodded at the question, causing Lucy to relax slightly, before glancing at Peter.
"I'm alright Lu." Peter told her gently. "Just - out of breath."
"You're hurt!" Susan said suddenly, causing even Edmund to glance up in mild concern.
Peter sighed and glanced down at his hand, where a shallow cut could be seen. "I'm fine." He said reassuringly.
"How did it happen?" His mum asked quickly.
"The window smashed." Peter said with a small shrug. "Don't worry, it's not deep or anything."
Edmund stared at Peter for a moment before sighing and looking back down at the ground, catching Peter's attention.
"In future though Ed." Peter said. "Just do as you're told. That was extremely dangerous what you just did, and it could've ended up alot worse."
Edmund swallowed hard, forcing back the scowl he so wanted to give his brother.
"Are you hurt?"
Edmund was caught off guard by the question, looking rather shocked, but he shook his head, not looking at Peter.
"Alright." Peter sighed, before sitting up straight and taking a deep breath. "Let's just all get some sleep."
He glanced up when there was a nearby explosion, hearing Lucy's quiet whimper afterwards.
"Well." He mumbled. "If we can."☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡
