Edmund sighed slightly as he stepped out the bathroom late that night, glancing up and frowning in confusion when he spotted Lucy slowly disappear around the far corner, a candle held tightly in her hand.
It took him a while, but after a moment or two he guessed that she was going to the wardrobe, the one that she'd claimed to have found a magical land at the back of.
With a smirk Edmund followed quietly behind her, quickly hiding around the corner when Lucy stopped outside the door.
He watched her as she glanced around for a moment, before slowly entering the room, closing the door with a quiet thud.
Edmund waited a reasonable time before going in after her, creeping into the room and letting the door close behind him.
He frowned when he didn't see Lucy, wondering where'd she'd gone. "Lucy?" He asked quietly, glancing around the room, before his eyes fell on the wardrobe.
Smirking slightly he made his way over, before pulling open the door. "Boo!" He shouted, intending on atleast making Lucy jump.
But he frowned again when he didn't see his sister. He glanced behind him one last time, before realising that she was probably hiding right at the back, and with a small smirk he stepped into the wardrobe, closing the door with a click behind him. "Hope you're not afraid of the dark." He said with a small laugh.
When Lucy didn't reply, Edmund frowned. "Lucy?" He asked slowly, taking a few steps forward.
He frowned when he came across what looked like a branch, and had to pull it out the way before he could continue.
"Lucy?" He asked, at any minute expecting to bumb into the back of the wardrobe, and panicking when he didn't. "Lucy?!"
He gasped when he tripped, bracing himself and expecting to either fall into the back of the wardrobe, all fall too the wooden floor.
But instead he landed in something soft, something soft cold and wet.
Cracking his eyes open he gasped, finding himself staring at the sky.
Hesitating slightly he slowly sat up, realising he was sat in snow, and frowning slightly.
Forcing himself to his feet he glanced around, seeing that he was stood in the middle of a snow covered woods, during the day.
Lucy's imaginary country obviously wasn't so imaginary after all.
Shaking his head slightly he began walking, hoping to find his sister. "Lucy?!" He called, his heart pounding in his chest. He didn't like this, he really didn't like this. "Where are you?!"
No answer.
"I think I believe you now!" Edmund thought that maybe this would catch Lucy's attention if she was near, but when there was again no answer, Edmund realises that Lucy was gone, but where he didn't know.
Determined to find his sister, he trudged through the ankle high snow, grumbling about the cold as he walked.
He frowned and looked rather shocked when he came across a lamppost.
He stared up at it for a moment, wondering why an earth there was a lamppost in the middle of the woods, and also why it was lit. It didn't need to be lit, it was daytime.
After a moment he remembered he'd been looking for Lucy and, tearing his eyes from the lamppost, continued walking.
He called his sisters name multiple times, but every time he got no answer, only complete and utter silence.
That silence was broke two minutes later by the sound of bells.
Edmund frowned, his head whipping around to face the direction of the noise.
He stood there for a moment, before what looked like a sleigh came into his view, drawn by around 4 reindeer and driven by a rather small looking man.
Edmund frowned deeper when the sleigh didn't slow down, and slowly began to step back.
He obviously didn't step back enough though, for the next thing he knew he was sat in a pile of snow, the sleigh eventually coming to a standstill just around the corner.
Edmund hesitantly sat up, peering over at the sleigh and wondering who was in it.
He didn't have any more time to wonder however, because the man he'd seen before popped its head out, something clutched tightly in his hand.
Edmund's eyes went wide when he jumped from the sleigh and took off running towards him, causing Edmund's eyes to go wide and for him to quickly stand and begin sprinting away.
His heart pounded as he ran, and he gasped when he felt the dwarves whip, for that's what it was, wrap around his ankles.
He felt it rip his skin, before he was sent crashing to the snow, landing on his back with a groan.
He barely had any time to process anything before the little man was on top of him, holding, to Edmund's horror, a knife to the side of his neck.
"Get off me!" Edmund exclaimed, saying the first thing that came to his head.
"What is it now Ginnabrik?"
Edmund's eyes darted to the voice, and it was obvious it belonged to whoever was sitting in the sleigh. "Make him let me go!" He pleaded, his heart pounding in his chest. "I didn't do anything wrong!"
"How dare you address the queen of Narnia!" The dwarf suddenly growled.
Edmund's eyes went wide. "I didn't know!" He defended, feeling the steel of the knife digging into the side of his neck, and beginning to really panick.
"You will know her better hereafter!" The dwarf practically screeched.
Edmund's heart immediately stopped beating when he saw the dwarf raise the knife above his head, and in all honesty he felt sick.
Squeezing his eyes shut and holding his breath, Edmund waited for the dwarf to bring the dagger down, but his eyes snapped open when he heard a sudden order of "Wait!"
After the dwarf had climbed off him and stood, Edmund slowly sat up, spotting a women stood in front of him.
She was tall, extremely tall, dressed in a long white dress, hair sticking up and what looked like a crown sticking out of it. Her skin was as white as paper, her eyes a piercing green and her lips a pale red.
Edmund stared at her, unsure what to say or even do.
"What is your name, son of Adam?" The women asked, her voice cold and firm.
Edmund frowned slightly as he stood, slightly confused over the "Son of Adam" part. "Er, Edmund." He said eventually.
"And how, Edmund, did you come to enter my dominion?" The women said.
Edmund swallowed hard, she didn't sound very happy. "I was just following my sister." He explained.
"Your sister?" The women said quickly, all of a sudden seeming rather interested. "How many are you?"
Edmund only hesitated for a second before answering. "Four." He mumbled. "Lucy's the only one that's been here before. She said she met some faun called-" He paused for a moment, trying to remember the name of the faun Lucy kept talking about. "T-Tumnus!" He eventually remembered. "Peter and Susan didn't believe her, I didn't either." He stopped then, frowning over the way the womens face had changed, from hard and stern, to soft and gentle.
"Edmund." She said. "You look so cold, will you come and sit with me?"
Edmund's heart skipped a beat, he didn't at all like the sound of that idea, but when the dwarf gave him a hard nudge, he had no choice but to go and join the women on her sleigh.
He sat hesitantly beside her and she immediately wrapped her cloak around him, and he had to admit, he did feel warmer already.
"Now." The women said. "How about something hot to drink?"
Edmund was confused but still nodded. "Yes please." He said. "Your majesty."
The Queen smiled and pulled a small vial from her cloak, causing Edmund's frown to get even deeper.
He watched as she poured one drop of whatever was in it onto the snow covering the ground.
Edmund watched, shocked as well as fascinated, as a cup gradually appeared where the drop had landed, filled with something that looked maybe a little like hot chocolate.
"Your drink sire." The dwarf said, handing him the cup.
While Edmund felt slightly freaked out by the tone of his voice, he was too confused to dwell on it for too long. "How did you do that?" He asked, taking the cup and taking a sip.
It was delicious, that's all he could think, and by now he was quite warm.
"I can make anything you like." The Queen told him.
Edmund glanced up at her. "Can you make me taller?" He asked.
The Queen chuckled a little, shaking her head in amusement. "Anything you'd like to eat?" She asked.
Edmund thought for a moment... anything? "Turkish delight?" He asked slowly.
It had always been his favourite, but because of the war it had been rather hard to come by, and he hadn't had it for as long as he could remember.
The Queen raised an eyebrow at him before letting another drop fall from the tiny vial.
Edmund watched again, fascinated as a box appeared and was handed to him.
Taking off the lid and untieing the ribbon, he immediately began eating the Turkish delight inside.
It was probably the most delicious thing he'd ever tasted, sweet, sticky and absolutely covered in icing-sugar.
"Edmund?" The Queen asked.
Edmund hardly acknowledged her as he ate...
"I would very much like to meet the rest of your family"...
But this caught his attention.
He frowned, staring up at her. "Why?" He asked. "They're nothing special."
He immediately went back to eating after he'd said this, not noticing how the Queen raised her eyebrows at him.
"Oh I'm sure they're not-" She grabbed the hat off the dwarf and wiped away the sugar around Edmund's mouth. "Nearly as delightful as you are."
Edmund smiled slightly as she threw the hat back, and instead brought her hand up to run it through his hair. "But you see Edmund-" She began. "I have no children of my own, and you are exactly the sort of boy who I could see, one day, becoming prince of Narnia, maybe even, king."
Edmund was shocked, he almost didn't believe her, almost... "Really?" He asked.
"Of course you'd have to bring your family." The Queen said quickly.
Edmund's face fell. "Oh." He mumbled. "Do you mean, Peter will be king too?"
"No, no no." The Queen said, causing Edmund to sigh in relief. "But a king needs servants."
Edmund smiled. Now that sounded more like it. "I guess I could bring them." He said, biting into another piece of Turkish delight.
The Queen then took the box and handed it back to the dwarf.
Edmund was a little disappointed by this as he finished off the last piece, but didn't say anything.
The Queen then pointed into the distance. "You see those two hills?"
Edmund followed her gaze and nodded slowly, spotting the hills.
"My house is right between them."
Edmund suddenly stood when she nudged him, getting the clear hint that their little meeting was over.
"Trust me Edmund, you'll love it there." The Queen said as Edmund stepped down off the sleigh. "It has whole rooms simply stuffed with Turkish delight."
Edmund paused for a moment. "Couldn't I have some more now?" He asked slowly.
"No!"
Edmund jumped backwards slightly, confused by the small outburst.
The Queen immediately sighed. "Don't wanna ruin your appetite." She recovered quickly.
Edmund nodded slowly, stepping back away from the sleigh.
"Anyway, you and I are gonna be seeing each other again very soon aren't we?" The Queen said.
"I hope so." Edmund said quickly. "Your majesty."
"Until then, dear one." The Queen said. "Hmm, I'm gonna miss you."
And with that she was gone, leaving Edmund alone.
That is until...
"Edmund?"
Edmund spun around, and couldn't help the feeling of utter relief when he spotted Lucy, his little sister, appear in the bushes.
That relief soon turned to annoyance though when she let out a cry of his name and ran into his arms. "Oh Edmund, you got in too!" She exclaimed. "Isn't it wonderful?!"
Edmund quickly pushed her away. "Where've you been?" He asked, wiping the sugar away from his mouth.
"With Mr.Tumnus." Lucy explained as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "He's fine! The white witch hasn't found out anything about him meeting me!"
Edmund's heart skipped a beat. "The white witch?" He asked slowly.
"She calls herself the queen of Narnia." Lucy said, almost laughing. "But she really isn't."
Edmund took a deep breath. That women he'd just met, that was the white witch.
"Are you alright?" Lucy asked before he could think anymore. "You look awful!"
Edmund in fact didn't feel very good, in all honest he felt sick. But he ignored the feeling and instead answered with. "Well what do you expect!? I mean, it's freezing. How do we get out of here?"
Lucy stared at him for a moment before grabbing his hand. "Come on." She said. "This way."
