He meant what he said

Despite that night, Edmund slowly went back to the way he was before, and Peter for once was dreading going back to school, for his brothers sake.
The second the two arrived at school, Peter quickly told Edmund he was going to unpack, before disappearing down the hallway.
Edmund frowned at this, having expected Peter to atleast say goodbye and try and hug him, like he always did at the start of every term, and he was extremely confused when he didn't.
He was thinking of just ignoring it and heading to his own dorm, after all, it was not like he actually wanted Peter to give him a hug in front of everyone, but instead he decided to follow him.
He followed him until he reached Peter's dorm, where Peter disappeared inside before emerging ten seconds later without his suitcase.
Following him again Edmund was surprised when Peter walked up to Edmund's friends, stopping in front of them.
Getting a little closer so he could hear, he hid behind a wall and listened.
"You're Edmund's older brother right?" He heard Jack say.
"That's right." Came Peter's reply.
"Can we help you?"
Edmund frowned and peaked around the wall, staring at Peter. "I want you to stay away from my brother." He said firmly.
Edmund rolled his eyes, he should've known that this would be the only reason why Peter would actually talk to his friends.
Jack laughed. "Why?" He asked simply.
"Because ever since he's been hanging around with you lot he's become a beast." Peter snapped.
"And that's our fault how?" Jack said, smirking.
Peter scowled at him. "You're always getting him into trouble." He said.
"I think you'll find its him that gets himself into trouble." Jack said quickly.
"He was never like this before you became "friends"." Peter spat.
Jack laughed. "We're friends with him Peter." He said. "You're just gonna have to learn to except that."
And with that, Edmund watched them all walk away, leaving Peter standing in the empty corridor.
"What an earth do you think you're doing?!" Edmund exclaimed, finally revealing himself.
Peter nealy jumped five foot in the air and swung around to face his brother. "Ed." He said. "You can't hang around with them anymore!"
Edmund scowled. "I don't care what you think Peter!" He snapped. "They're my friends!"
"They aren't you friends though Edmund!" Peter told him, raising his arms. "And you know that, don't you? You know deep down that they don't care about you and only want to get you into as much trouble as they can."
Edmund stared at him, no way in a million years would he admit to Peter that he actually did know that. "That's not true." He said.
"You know what." Peter said suddenly. "I'm done, done with all this. From now on, you're on your own." And with that he turned and stormed away, very soon disappearing around a corner, leaving Edmund staring after him.
With a groan of annoyance Edmund walked down the corridor, heading for his dorm, wondering if Peter actually meant what he had said.

☆☆☆

To Edmund's utter confusion, it seemed that Peter had meant what he said. For a whole two weeks Peter didn't speak to him, for a whole two weeks Peter never told him that Jack and his friends were bad news, for a whole two weeks Peter never had a go at James for teasing Edmund, for a whole two weeks Peter just completely ignored Edmund.
And Edmund was getting rather confused.
It really wasn't like Peter to act this way, He guessed Peter really had had it with Edmund's behaviour.
After two week though Peter really didn't have a choice but to speak to Edmund, seeming as his younger brother had gotten into another fight.
After picking Edmund up from the headmasters office, they both walked down the corridor in silence for a long time, until Peter finally spoke up.
"Did you start it?" He asked firmly.
Edmund looked up at him. "Yes and no." He said with a shrug.
Peter stopped walking and glared at him. "What's that supposed to mean?" He asked.
"It wasn't just me." Edmund said.
Peter sighed. "This has to stop Edmund, I've told you this quite literally a million time!"
Edmund didn't say anything.
"Why can't you just grow up?!" Peter snapped harshly.
"Shut up!" Edmund shouted. "Just shut up! You can't tell me what to do?!"
"Watch me." Peter said firmly.
Edmund stared at him, eyes slightly wide and mouth open.
"You should probably get to lessons." Peter said after a while. "Haven't you got a maths test in an hour? You need to prepare."
Edmund snorted. "Is there really any point in me turning up?" He asked. "We both know I'll fail."
Peter glared at him. "You're gonna go and take that test and you're gonna pass it." He said. "You hear me?"
Edmund snorted again. "Whatever you say." He mocked before turning and heading down the corridor towards his dorm.
He groaned in annoyance when he was out of Peter's earshot, rolling his eyes.
Why did Peter always have to be so bossy! He had had it.
Pushing open his dorm door he walked inside and over to his bed, grabbing his maths books and flopping onto the bed with a sigh, he supposed he should atleast get an hour of revision in before the test, otherwise Peter would kill him.
After an hour he realised he'd barely gone over three pages of the book, and he wasn't really surprised. It was so... hard. Nothing like last years work.
And last term it had been the same, he had failed that test because it was way too hard and Peter wasn't there to help him, like he usually would be.
But he never told his brother and just kept silent.
Looking up at the clock he saw he only had ten minutes before the test started, so as quickly as he could he grabbed his books and dashed from the dorm, hurrying to the classroom.
