"Hey Jojo," You said. The boy looked over, blue eyes shimmering in the moonlight. You raised your hand into the air, fingers spread out in the night sky. "Do you know what the Moon Rabbit is?"
"The Moon Rabbit?" He repeated in a weird tone. His face was mixed with confusion. "What the heck is that?"
You laughed a little before sitting up in the grass. Jotaro did the same. "Its a folklore my Mom used to tell me." You said. "She used to tell me it every night before I went to sleep."
"Well, what's it about?" He asked, folding his legs under him.
"There was an old man who lived on the moon. One day, he decided to visit Earth, and when he got there, he asked a monkey, a fox, and a rabbit for food. The monkey climbed a big tree and got him some fruit. The fox found a river and caught him a fish. But the rabbit couldn't bring him anything, so instead, he built a fire and then jumped into it to be cooked. The old man pulled him out of the fire and praised him for his sacrifice and as a reward, the old man brought the rabbit back to the moon. " You pointed to the moon that was shining brightly above you. Your eyes twinkled with excitement and joy. "Mom says if you look close enough, you can see the Rabbit making mochi on the moon!"
"That sounds awesome!" Jotaro exclaimed, casting his eyes up to the sky. You smiled and laid back on the grass, tracing shapes on the stars. "Hey.." He said after a few moments. He turned to face you. "Would you do that?"
"What? Go to the moon?" You asked.
"No...sacrifice yourself for someone you didn't know." He said.
"Of course I would," You answered in a heart beat. There was no hesitation in your voice.
"But its a stranger! You don't know them!" He said in protest.
"Everyone is a stranger before you know them. Besides, " You shrugged. "Everyone should deserve to have a chance to live. Just because they are a stranger to me, doesn't mean they are a stranger to someone else. They could have a family that needs them, or friends that rely on them. Or even the old lady down the street who they buy groceries for. Everyone deserves to live and be able to enjoy their life. Being a stranger won't effect if I would sacrifice myself to let someone else live."
Jotaro looked at you in shock. Were you seriously going to lay your life down for a stranger? Of course you would. There wasn't a doubt about it. It doesn't matter who it is. You'd save them. Just like the Rabbit.
"What about you?" You asked. "Would you sacrifice yourself for a stranger?"
"I..-" He looked to the ground guiltily. "I don't...know.."
"That's okay," You said, shooting him a reassuring smile. Kindness was spread across your face, and the gentleness that was in your eyes made him relax. There was something about you that could calm anyone down. "Its okay if you don't know yet. I guess it could be the spurr of the moment thing," You said.
"Yeah...I guess so.." Jotaro said, laying beside you. You yawned and rolled onto your side, tucking your small hand under your head. "Hey I've been meaning to ask you this," Jotaro said suddenly.
"What?" You asked, furrowing your brows together.
"What was the disease you had when you were a baby? The one that made you so tiny." He said.
"Atrial septal defect" You said. "I also have anemia and vitamin deficiencies. I was born with a hole in my heart."
"Oh." Jotaro said. "You're okay now though right?"
"Yeah. It went down for a while." You yawned before continuing. "Celiac didn't last long but everything else did."
Jotaro was about to ask another question before he realized that you had fallen asleep. He softly smiled with pink cheeks before he turned to you and closed his eyes, allowing himself to fall asleep beside you.
You sat on the bed staring at the wall blankly. Your body was aching. You were weaker. It all started the night before. Now, at ten am, you could barely move. You felt like shit. A dull ache was in your throat, and you felt anxious. What if this was the stand? It had to be. You wouldn't have gotten sick that easily or quickly. Something was terribly wrong. You had to get help.
At first you thought of Jotaro. But the things that happened last night had you hesitating. Besides, you recall him leaving with Anne and Kakyoin to go look around. That left Mr. Joestar and Avdol. Their room was downstairs and to the left.
You could make it.
You struggled to stand to your feet, stumbling off the bed and holding onto the table to steady yourself. Your legs felt like jelly. A wave of vertigo hit you and you stayed for a moment before regaining balance. You slowly walked to the door, then headed down the hall. You kept your hand on the wall for support, but every step you took a sharp pain happened in your side. It was making you lose your breath, but you willed yourself to keep going. After you came down the stairs, you were completely out of breath. Your breathing was unsteady and you were quietly wheezing. Your vision was blurring and you were starting to lose feeling in your hands.
This was bad.
You could barely see the numbers on the door to make out what one belonged to Mr. Joestar. You slumped against the door, eyes half-lidded and breathing shallowly. You weakly hit the door with your fist. Your legs buckled under your and you fell down to the ground. You couldn't feel anything. Your vision was blurring as you stared up at the ceiling.
A shadow passed over you and before you could figure it out, your vision went completely black and your mind went blank.
