For the rest of the day, you joked around with everyone and had a bunch of fun. It felt nice to be able to act like nothing had happened. You were sitting on the dresser, holding a glass bottle of soda.
"Since we have underage teenagers," Mr. Joestar said. "Let's make a toast to orange soda. A toast, for Miss Y/n."
"You make it seem like I won a nobel prize or something," You snickered.
"Shut up and clink my soda!" Mr. Joestar yelled, making you burst into laughter. "Now that we've gotten that out of the way," He said, going to the small pile of boxes and bags. "Present time."
"You sons of bitches." You mumbled. "Why'd you buy me stuff?"
"Cause its your birthday?!" Polnareff said. "Jeez, sometimes I wonder if everything is okay in your head, kid." He said, poking the side of your head, making you laugh.
"Shut up!" You laughed.
"Here. This one is from me." Mr. Joestar said.
"Wait give her mine first!" Polnareff said, jumping up.
"Nope. Take it Y/n!" You laughed and took the box from him as him and Polnareff fell to the ground.
"Yare yare.." Jotaro mumbled. You smiled and shook your head as you opened the box. It was gonna be a long rest of the day.
After a few more hours of horsing around, opening gifts and cracking jokes, you found yourself waving bye to the others. You sat outside on the curb in front of the hotel. A small smile was still on your face as you stared up at the stars. There was something about stars that always intrigued you. How they looked like mere little dots to you, but were actually huge compared to you. There was always a calming feeling that washed over whenever you were stargazing. The stars to you were comforting.
The cigarette in your mouth was snatched away, making you tilt your head back to look at the giant standing above you. Jotaro took the final drag before dropping it and crushing it under his shoe. You followed his movements as he sat down beside you.
"Smoking's bad you know," He said, grinning at you as he blew the smoke from his nose.
"Is that so Mr. Cancer Bank?" You hummed. "How many packs am I gonna pull out when I reach into your pocket, hmm?" You asked with a grin, propping your cheek on your palm. He chuckled and shook his head.
"You never stop being a smartass do you?"
"What can I say?" You shrugged. "Learned from the best you know."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked, glaring at you in the corner of his eye.
"Oh nothing," You sang. It was quiet for a moment before you nudged him with your elbow. "Hey,"
He bummed in response, tilting his head up to look at the stars.
"Thanks..for today. For everything actually." You said softly, looking down at the ground. "With everything that happened, I didn't even think about my birthday or anything like that. But you still remembered, and went out of your way to have a party," You shook your head with a smile on your face. "You truly are bizarre."
"Don't ever say I don't care about you," He whispered. It was so quiet you had to let it register in your mind that you didn't hear things.
"You're a tsundere!" You exclaimed, making his cheeks turn red.
"I am not!" He argued.
"Yes you are!" You laughed. "You're a tsundere and you know it!"
"Tch. Believe what you want bitch." He grumbled.
"See? This proves my point and only encourages me further. " You said, laying back on the sidewalk.
"Here," You blinked a few times as Jotaro shoved a black box in front of you. It was small, and felt smooth as you took it in your hands. You sat up and looked at him.
"What's this?" You asked.
"Open it and find out." He said, trying to hide the grin that was coming across his face.
"I'll kill you if this is a gag gift and something jumps out at me." You said, looking him in the eye as he lit up a cigarette. This man was going to have lung cancer before he was twenty-five.
"Just open it, Buttercup." He said. You looked at him suspiciously before turning back to the black box. Slowly, you lifted the lid. You froze.
"Remember when we were kids, and you used to tell me about the Moon Rabbit?"
"There was an old man who lived on the moon. One day, he decided to visit Earth, and when he got there, he asked a monkey, a fox, and a rabbit for food. The monkey climbed a big tree and got him some fruit. The fox found a river and caught him a fish. But the rabbit couldn't bring him anything, so instead, he built a fire and then jumped into it to be cooked. The old man pulled him out of the fire and praised him for his sacrifice and as a reward, the old man brought the rabbit back to the moon. " You pointed to the moon that was shining brightly above you. Your eyes twinkled with excitement and joy. "Mom says if you look close enough, you can see the Rabbit making mochi on the moon!"
"That sounds awesome!" Jotaro exclaimed, casting his eyes up to the sky. You smiled and laid back on the grass, tracing shapes on the stars. "Hey.." He said after a few moments. He turned to face you. "Would you do that?"
"What? Go to the moon?" You asked.
"No...sacrifice yourself for someone you didn't know." He said.
"Of course I would," You answered in a heart beat. There was no hesitation in your voice.
"But its a stranger! You don't know them!" He said in protest.
"Everyone is a stranger before you know them. Besides, " You shrugged. "Everyone should deserve to have a chance to live. Just because they are a stranger to me, doesn't mean they are a stranger to someone else. They could have a family that needs them, or friends that rely on them. Or even the old lady down the street who they buy groceries for. Everyone deserves to live and be able to enjoy their life. Being a stranger won't effect if I would sacrifice myself to let someone else live."
Jotaro looked at you in shock. Were you seriously going to lay your life down for a stranger? Of course you would. There wasn't a doubt about it. It doesn't matter who it is. You'd save them. Just like the Rabbit.
"What about you?" You asked. "Would you sacrifice yourself for a stranger?"
"I..-" He looked to the ground guiltily. "I don't...know.."
"That's okay," You said, shooting him a reassuring smile. Kindness was spread across your face, and the gentleness that was in your eyes made him relax. There was something about you that could calm anyone down. "Its okay if you don't know yet. I guess it could be the spurr of the moment thing," You said.
"Yeah...I guess so.." Jotaro said, laying beside you. You yawned and rolled onto your side, tucking your small hand under your head.
"Y-yeah.." You whispered. Your fingers gently took the necklace from the casing. It was a small silver rabbit sitting on a gold crescent moon. You laughed softly as you wiped the tears from the corner of your eyes. "I can't believe you remembered that. After all these years. We were like...six.." You said.
"So?" He said. "Even now, you still are the Rabbit." You looked at him with wide eyes.
You were the rabbit.
And Jotaro was the stars that surrounded around you.
