Adrien stood still as Chat Blanc charged headlong at him. He looked at Marinette, seeing the look of pure panic in her eyes. He promised himself that he would protect her. Both Chat Noir and Adrien would keep that promise.
He steaded himself as he raised his ring to the sky and shouted, " PLAGG, CLAWS OUT!" the ensuing green flash made Marinette stumble and almost fall to the ground. Chat Blanc didn't care, he still made the leap, aiming to sink his bloody claws into Chat Noir's throat. His face contorted into a wide grin of bloodthirsty elation as he was mere inches from ending him.
Chat Noir quickly ducked, the claws only tearing his right cat ear. He took out his staff as Chat Blanc careened above him, knocking him off course. Chat Blanc landed on his spine, letting out a grunt of pain. Chat Noir stood up and looked down at his adversary, blocking the path between him and Marinette, " Don't bother getting up. It'll end like last time."
Chat Noir cast a glance in Marinette's direction, just to see if she was okay.
Marinette was rooted to the spot. Adrien was Chat Noir? So many things clicked in her head all at once, his absences matching hers, his reactions to Ladybug rescuing him, Adrien perking up whenever someone mentioned Chat Noir, the reason they both smelled like camembert, the reason why Adrien had taken her in to protect her, the reason why Chat had been so interested in her comfort and safety.
It was because Adrien was Chat Noir, and Chat Noir was Adrien.
Marinette saw motion just behind Chat Noir, and turned her gaze to it just in time for her to yell " CHAT LOOK OUT!"
Chat Noir was too late to react, getting struck across the face with Chat Blanc's staff. The white cat chuckled darkly as the black cat fell to the ground, " Remind me, Noir, is THIS what happened last time?" he raised his staff above his head and brought it down hard on Chat Noir's ribcage, causing him to cry out in pain.
Marinette ran over to them, wishing she hadn't put as much distance between her and Chat Blanc. Every second was a higher chance that Chat Noir could be killed, " STOP IT!" she screamed at him, but her cries fell on deaf ears.
The white staff went up in the air again as Chat Noir tried to escape, resulting in an even harsher blow to the side. Chat Blanc's vision blurred between the street and the top floor of the Eiffel Tower, between Chat Noir and Gabriel Agreste. He cackled as he kept bashing whatever was in front of him. They both tried to escape the exact same way, gave the exact same cries of anguish.
Like father like son, he presumed.
