Marinette yawned as she woke up from a nice dream of sharing mutual romantic feelings with Adrien. It was time to get ready for school, and Marinette was not ready whatsoever. Especially not after the akuma battle last night. She could still feel the absurd amount of adrenaline from before coursing through her veins.
Marinette poked Tikki's cheek until she woke up. " What is it, Marinette?" The little red kwami asked.
" Do you want to continue your nap in my bag? I have to get ready for school." upon hearing the request Tikki floated lazily into the bag and resumed her sleep. She picked up her usual outfit, changing out of her pajamas and into her day wear. Due to her being groggy and burned out, she didn't notice the pair of green eyes hungrily watching her every move.
Marinette was a little later to school than usual, walking in quietly as to not attract attention. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Adrien. But, she had no time to get flustered and lovey-dovey. Something was clearly very, very wrong.
" -and don't you EVER come CLOSE to me, don't you ever TALK to me, don't even LOOK at me!" Adrien yelled in a rage that Marinette didn't even think was possible for him until now. Other students stared in shock and slight fear as he just kept yelling, " If I EVER see you AGAIN, I'll rip your guts out, you LYING little bi-"
" Adrien!" Marinette called out, she had no idea what had started this, but judging by how she could see that the target of this was Lila, she could guess she was telling her usual lies. But Adrien hadn't gotten like this even when Lila had tried to get her expelled. What could possibly have happened?
Adrien turned around to see who called his name, and his stormy expression immediately softened, then brightened into a broad grin. He quickly pulled her close in an embrace. Marinette could feel his rapid heartbeat slowing down through his shirt. This was no ordinary hug, Adrien was hugging her as if he hadn't seen her in days, weeks even. He ran his fingers through her hair and rested his head on hers, his unoccupied arm wrapped around her waist.
Everyone who witnessed the last few minutes seemed impeccably confused. He had been mad and yelling at everyone, including Nino and Alya, but then when Marinette shows up he's happier than anyone's ever seen him.
Marinette pulled away, " Adrien, what was all that?" she asked softly.
He brushed a lock of hair behind her ear, " I was just thinking about what she had been doing to you and I couldn't stand it anymore, letting her get away with that."
It was nice that Adrien was standing up for her, but that didn't dismiss the worried feeling inside her, " But now, of all times? That was a month and a half ago."
Adrien smiled wider, staring directly into her eyes as he said, " Well, it's a month and a half too late. Something has to be done or everyone will keep pushing you around. I'd go ballistic if that happened to you."
As flattering as this new protective side of him was, Marinette couldn't help but feel it wasn't going to end well.
