The fellowship go trekking through a land of deep valleys and turbulent waters. The misty mountains rise sharply to northwest of the traveling company  "We must hold to this course, west of the Misty Mountains, for forty days. If our luck holds, the Gap of Rohan will still be open to us. From there, our road turns east, to Mordor." Gandalf explains to young Frodo.

Sam sits before a small fire with a pan cooking some bacon for breakfast. The sounds of clashing swords grow wilder as  Hali and Boromir give Merry and  Pippin sword lessons with Aragorn seated on a rock smoking his pipe close by.

"Get away from the blade, Pippin  on your toes good, very good" Boromir praises  Pippin, who in turn beams a bright smile while looking over at his cousin.  "I want you to react, not think." Hali puts pressure on Merry. "Should not be too hard" Merry looks back at her with a cocky confidence.

"Move your feet." Merry tells Pippin who stands kind of stiffly, "Quite good, Pippin." Boromir  says in cheer "Thanks." he says back. Gimli has managed to corner Gandalf.  "If anyone were to ask for my opinion, which I note they have not, I would say we are taking the long way round. Gandalf, we can pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin, Balin, would give us a royal welcome." Gimli presses them to take route under the mountain instead of through the valley Gandalf clearly thinks this is a bad idea. "No, Gimli. I would not take the road through Moria unless I had no other choice." Gandalf says.  Boromir thrusts, catching Pippin on the hand. Pippin throws down his sword, kicks and lunges at Boromir, tackling him o the ground. Much laughter.  Legolas' eyes are fixed on a distant dark patch which darts about in the sky, like flying smoke in the wind.

"What is that?' Sam questions as he too catches sight of the dark patch that moves through the sky. "Nothing but a whiff of cloud" Gimli grumbles as he smokes his pipe, "It's moving to fast to be clouds" Hali speaks up as she gets up onto a higher rock. "It's spies from Caeborn! Everyone hide!" Aragorn yells as everyone rushes to find a hiding spot with the large rocks and dry brushes.  Once the spies had passed they all come out, "Our path south has been blocked" Gandalf says. "We could take the path through Rohan" Boromir suggested "No Rohan takes us too close to Isneguard" Hali hisses with displeasure for the white wizard who took up resident there.

The company takes the snowy pass of the mountain.
