Later at night, Éowyn is treated at the Houses of Healing.

Éomer looks on with worried glances as Aragorn treats the wound from the Witch-King's touch. Hali helps where she can with her gifts of heal with just the contact of water as the house of Healing is filled to the brim with men from both cities and those caught in the cross fire writhing Gondor's walls.

Éowyn awakes. She looks out upon the city in a small window beside her bed as a melody is sung.

"With a sigh you turn away
With a deepening heart
No more words to say
You will find that the world has changed
Forever." Éowyn rises from her bed. She sees Faramir, also wounded but healing, who smiles at her.

The song continues:

"And the trees are now
Turning from green to gold
And the sun is now fading
I wish I could hold you
Closer."

In the night, at the side of a dead Mûmakil, Pippin finds an injured Merry.
"Merry! Merry, it's me. It's Pippin."
"I knew you'd find me." He wheezes
"Yes." Pippin cries pulling him out. "Are you going to leave me?" Merry asks. "No, Merry. I'm going to look after you." Pippin grabs a cloak and covers Merry with it.

A council convenes in the throne room at Minas Tirith.
"Frodo has passed beyond my sight. The darkness is deepening."

"If Sauron had the Ring we would know it." Hali says pacing back and forth in from of the throne.
"It's only a matter of time. He has suffered a defeat, yes, but behind the walls of Mordor our enemy is regrouping." Gandalf declares

Gimli sits on the steward's throne, puffing on a pipe "Let him stay there. Let him rot! Why should we care?"

"Because ten thousand Orcs now stand between Frodo and Mount Doom." Both Gandalf and Hali cry at the dwarf. "I've sent him to his death." Gandalf looks sorrowfully.

Aragorn looks up "No. There's still hope for Frodo. He needs time, and safe passage across the Plains of Gorgoroth. We can give him that."
"How?" Gimli says blowing out smoke.
"Draw out Sauron's armies. Empty his lands. Then we gather our full strength and march on the Black Gate." Aragorn advices, Éomer looks sceptical "We cannot achieve victory through strength of arms."

"Not for ourselves, but we can give Frodo his chance if we keep Sauron's Eye fixed upon us." Hali agates with Aragorn's idea,"Keep him blind to all else that moves." Legolas pipes "A diversion." "Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?" Gimli chuckles.
Gandalf mutters "Sauron will suspect a trap. He will not take the bait." "Oh, I think he will." Aragorn enters the citadel throne room and uncovers the Palantír. He flinches as the Eye blazes. He grasps the Palantír and holds it up, looking into it.

Aragorn growls at the eye "Long have you hunted me. Long have I eluded you. No more."

He holds up his sword to the Palantír.
"Behold the sword of Elendil."

An image of Saruon in his armor appears, then a depiction of Hali dead.

As Sauron laughs, Aragorn releases the Palantír. The gem she gave him falls to the floor and shatters.

Faraway, Éowyn looks out from the Houses of Healing. Faramir walks to her side. "The city has fallen silent. There is no warmth left in the sun. It grows so cold."

"It's just the damp of the first spring rain." Éowyn turns to Faramir. "I do not believe this darkness will endure."

They hold hands and smile.
Éowyn rests her head on Faramir's shoulder.
