Alone amidst the crowd, Lisa found herself engulfed in a swirl of smoke and the overpowering scent of alcohol. The club pulsed with life, people dancing to the beat of loud music, but Lisa felt detached, her mind clouded by the effects of alcohol.
"One more," she ordered, pushing her glass towards the bartender. The empty glass returned filled with whiskey, but Lisa had lost count of how many shots she had already consumed.
Her initial intent to drown her sorrow took a darker turn when she overheard two of her employees gossiping earlier. "I saw Mr. Jongin dragging Ms. Kim into the corner of the parking lot. I think they're having an affair," one of them whispered.
As the alcohol began to take its toll, Lisa's vision blurred, yet she continued to drown her thoughts with more liquor, feeling the burn down her throat.
she had been driving aimlessly a while ago, letting the road take her wherever it led, until she ended up here, amidst the pulsating lights and rhythmic chaos of the club.
Her phone vibrated, disrupting her numbness. She pulled it out and opened it, expecting work-related messages.
'Where are you? I'm worried.'
- Unknown number.Lisa laughed bitterly; Jennie must have changed her number, which was why Lisa didn't recognize it.
"One more, please," Lisa muttered to herself, pushing the glass towards the bartender again. He hesitated for a moment before reluctantly pouring her another drink.
"Me too," a voice beside her said, and someone slid into the vacant seat next to her.
"Ahhh," the person beside her grimaced, almost retching. Lisa furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"I ordered whiskey, not orange juice, kid," she muttered, half to herself.
"Bitter!! Eew!" the woman exclaimed, squinting her eyes shut in distaste.
"That's whiskey. What did you expect it to taste like?" Lisa snapped back.
"I didn't expect it to be this strong," the woman complained, glaring at her glass.
Introducing herself as Somi, she explained how awkward it felt to be the only one without a partner among friends who were all coupled up. Lisa scratched her nose irritably, her desire for solitude disrupted by Somi's chatter.
"I'm not envious tho," Somi added quickly, sensing Lisa's indifference. "It just feels so awkward."
Lisa remained silent, prompting Somi to ask, "How about you? Why are you here?"
"Call me unnie. I'm obviously much older than you," Lisa replied curtly, her annoyance evident.
"I'm not here to find a sister! I'm here for friends, but fine, UNNIE," She replied sarcastically. "Why are you here, UNNIE?" She repeats.
"Nothing," Lisa responded bluntly, hoping to shut down the conversation.
Somi snorted in response, clearly expecting more than a one-word answer from Lisa.
"People drink alcohol either to have fun or to numb their negative feelings, and looking at you, I'd say you're here because of the 2nd one," Somi observed astutely.
"If that's your assessment of me, so be it," Lisa replied dismissively.
The whiskey began to make Lisa feel drowsy. She tried to stand up but staggered, colliding with Somi's side.
"Oh my god, unnie!" Somi exclaimed, steadying Lisa to prevent her from falling.
"Do you want me to drive you home, unnie? Give me your keys," Somi offered kindly.
Lisa couldn't find the strength to speak, fearing she might vomit at any moment. She wordlessly handed over her keys.
----
"What about you?" Somi asked as she pulled up outside Lisa's address. "No worries, unnie. Someone will pick me up," she assured Lisa.
Lisa stayed in her car, watching until she was sure Somi had safely picked up by her driver.
"Bye, unnie! Don't get drunk again," Somi called out, her concern palpable even in Lisa's intoxicated state.
Lisa stumbled out of the car, feeling like the world was spinning around her. Her vision blurred from the excessive spinning, and she nearly stumbled and lost her balance as she struggled to reach the door.
"Lisa? Are you okay? Where have you been? Let me help you," Jennie bombarded her with questions as soon as she stepped inside, reaching out to support Lisa, but she shoved Jennie's hands away. Lisa tried to head towards her room, but her weakened knees gave way, causing her to lose her balance. Jennie reacted swiftly, catching Lisa before she fell, but Lisa's mind raced with thoughts of betrayal, fueling her anger.
In an instant, Lisa's frustration erupted into aggression as she forcefully pushed Jennie away.
"I told you to leave me alone! stop coming near me! What part of that don't you understand? stop pestering me!" Lisa's voice reverberated through the room, fueled by the alcohol and pent-up emotions.
"Why? what do you want from me, Jennie Kim? Are you tired of Kai's attention? Have your priorities shifted? What do you want me to do? this?" Lisa's voice cracked as she grabbed Jennie's shoulders, pushing her roughly against the wall. She crashed her lips against Jennie's, the harsh, desperate, and filled with anger.
Jennie allowed Lisa to do as she please, enduring the pain Lisa inflicted upon her. She lacked the strength to push Lisa away.
"I did this to you, Lisa" Jennie whispered to herself, tears streaming down her face as she gazed at her wife, who remained in her grasp.
Lisa pulled back abruptly, Horror spreading across her face as she realized the extent of her actions. She backed away from Jennie, her hands trembling.
"No, no... Lisa, it's okay," Jennie soothed, her voice soft but tinged with pain, closing the distance between them slowly "It's not your fault, Lisa. It's okay," Jennie reassured her, tears continuing to fall as Lisa watched in stunned silence
Lisa staggered towards her bedroom, slamming the doors shut behind her. Even from inside, she could hear Jennie's sobs echoing through the house.
"No, please, stop!" Lisa mentally screamed, clutching her head. Tears streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably. Her body stiffened as sobs as well wracked her frame, the weight of her actions crashing down her
"I'm sorry, I'm really, really sorry," Jennie's voice reached Lisa through the closed door.
"I love you, Lisa... I really do," Jennie's words broke through Lisa's anguish, piercing her heart.
