"we love you finn"
It'd been three weeks since the new directions had lost their Finn Hudson and everyone was broken. Whether they'd known him four years or four months, Finn was such a special person that everybody had been touched by him in some way and the day he died was a day of grief they'd never forget.
After the funeral, Mr Schue had decided to call the new directions together so they could honour him through song. Despite being busier than ever, the choir room had an empty, quiet feeling with the sadness that everyone was feeling.
Walking into the choir room slowly, Mr Schue carefully wrote Finn's name on the whiteboard and took a heavy breathe before turning around to face the solemn group. He was unable to find his usual enthusiasm and just settled with looking upwards and sighing, "I'm really glad so many of you could make it back for this."
"We wouldn't miss it for anything, Mr Schue." Mike spoke up softly, as he wrapped his arm around Katy's shoulder.
Nodding gratefully, Mr Schue continued on, "the funeral was for everyone. But I wanted to do something just for us. To memorialise him the only way we know how, by singing. All week long anyone who wants to come up and sing, maybe a song he sung, maybe something that reminds you of him..."
Struggling to listen, Puck interrupted with little to no emotion in his voice, "singing isn't gonna bring him back." He snapped, before looking down embarrassed. Glancing over Mike's shoulder, Katy felt the tears spring back to her eyes as she saw the pain her brother, and the rest of her friends, were feeling and hastily wiped them away, sniffling her nose.
"No it's not." Mr Schue said through a deep breathe, "nothing is. Not ever. But for two minutes or so we can all maybe remember the best parts of him. So, think of what you want to sing, if you want to sing and we'll start tomorrow."
Shaking her head immediately, Mercedes wasn't sure she was going to be able to last until tomorrow without honouring Finn Hudson, "oh I can't wait until tomorrow, Mr Schue. I've been balling for three weeks, if I don't get this all out now, I don't think I'll ever stop crying."
Nodding understandingly, Mr Schue gave her a soft smile and gestured for her to take to the front of the room, "sure Mercedes, start us off."
Taking a shaky breathe as she let a small smile creep into her lips at the memories, Mercedes found the strength to explain her reasoning for the song she'd picked, "I remember Finn telling me that he sung this song to his baby's sonogram, at least he thought it was his baby. He was the first cool kid to be nice to any of us and he was our leader in here." She looked up as she felt the tears come to her eyes and the music for 'I'll stand by you' began to play, "we love you Finn."
