As the Smoke Clears

Sanai was exhausted; she had been up all night, and not one minute did she spend sleeping.
Now she was rummaging through the wreckage of a laundromat with her friends to see if anyone was trapped in the explosion.
She understood that it was a noble to search for victims in an explosion, but she would've rather come this after a good nights sleep.

"Do you see signs of anyone?", Ronald called from the other side of the destroyed building.

"No", Sanai yelled back.

She had been rummaging through debris to search for a trapped person who may not even be there, for the part ten minutes.
She wished someone else could do it, but most of the boys were searching through the buildings for other victims. Emerald and Drakon were flying through the sky on lookout incase anymore metal visitors decided to show up.
It was just her and Ronald searching through everything.
Every so often Sanai would pick up discarded clothes that had survived the blast.
It was a desperate act, but she needed to gather more clothes since some of the clothes she'd already stolen had been destroyed. Plus she was sure that most of the clothes in the laundromat were discarded items that people forgot to pick up.
She couldn't blame them for not wanting to drive back to the laundromat.
The place was in the middle of the desert, miles away from any town, next to a run-down motel.
The desert itself was a miserable place to be, alone; it was extremely hot and devoid of any moisture. The only vegetation near-by were the plants that Emerald made.
Sanai thought that the desert wasn't the worst place to live though.
She had lived on the west-coast for most of her life, and it was always scorching-hot over there.
The desert was quiet and peaceful, maybe if she found an area slightly more populated and more resources around, maybe she'd move out here.

CLUNK! CLUNK! CLUNK!

Sanai heard a metal clunking sound from a few feet away from her towards her right.
She raced over towards the source of the noise, hurdling over debris while doing so.
She made it towards a large mound of bricks and wooden beams.

She heard a muffled voice screaming, "HELP! HELP!".

"We'll get you out in a second!", Sanai yelled frantically. "RONALD, OVER HERE!".

From a hundred feet away, Ronald jumped over towards Sanai in a single bound.
Sanai alerted him of the situation, and he immediately acted.
He carefully removed the beams from off the top of the brick.
Once he removed all the beams, he lifted up the large clusters of rock.
Underneath the rubble was a girl who appeared to be in her twenties. She had dreadlocks, dark-brown skin, and was dressed in an African-styles sundress.
She had scrapes upon her face, and her leg was bleeding badly.

"I'll go get Emerald to heal her", Ronald said.

"Wait!", she yelled, before he could run off. "My friend, she was in here with me last night. I don't know where she is right now; please find her!".

Ronald gave her a look of affirmation and started to search through the rubble.
Sanai took the girl away from the wreckage and sat with her in the middle of the parking lot.

"Are you okay?", Sanai asked softly.

"Yeah, just shaken up", the girl replied. "Will your friend be okay looking through all of that?".

Sanai looked towards the burning building and said, "He'll be fine".

The girl looked down as her hands started to shake and said, "I'm worried about her.... what if she died down there".

"Hey, don't worry", Sanai said while taking the girl in her arms. "He'll find her".

The girl started to shake less as Sanai held her in her arms.
Then she wasn't shaking at all. It was as if though Sanai had acted as sedative for the girls nerves.

The girl looked up to Sanai and said, "Thankyou".

She then looked in Sanai's eyes for a long time. She had a dreamy look on her face like she had just seen the love of her life.
All of a sudden, the girl leaned over and kissed Sanai.
Sanai was shocked, but she didn't pull back.
The girl ran her hand along the side of Sanai's face, down her neck, and onto her shoulder.
That's when Sanai knew she had to break away.

She stared face to face with the girl and could only utter, "Ummm,...".

"Sorry", the girl said, with an embarrassed look on her face. "I don't know what came over me".

Sanai said, "It's fine".

It clearly wasn't though. She had just kissed a complete stranger, with no context. Sanai was attracted to girls, and girls had been equally attracted to Sanai. But the attraction was never so sudden, and so out of the blue.
Then she thought about Greg; if he found out what happened he'd probably be more than hurt.
Sanai turned around and began to bury her hands in her face.
But before she could so, she noticed something bizarre.
There was smoke coming from her hands, but not smoke like the poison she created.
It was pink smoke.

'What the hell?'

She thought for a moment about what it could mean; then a terrible thought entered her mind.
She pondered on it for a while until Ronald came towards them with a young lady at his side.
The girl by Sanai jumped  up and tackled the girl with a hug.
The two girls cried as they held each other in a hug.
Sanai wanted to cry to because of what she possibly discovered.

'If the purple smoke can repel and kill, can the pink smoke draw in and intice?'
