Jaebeom didn't really think it through. Not fully, at least.
He went home and immediately started planning, as he decided half way through the drive back that he refused to let Youngjae stay in a place where people wouldn't treat him well; and he especially wouldn't allow him to be transported to some unknown place where he'd be lost and confused.
He thought about as far as the escape route, which involved a back entrance to the lab that he was lucky to have access to. He didn't really think he'd need much of a plan after that; the most that could go wrong was that he'd get caught and he could easily excuse it as overtime for extra research or something.
He filled a bag with a few of his belongings; laptop, notebook, phone; his usual things. He wanted them with him just in case; he didn't think he'd have any use for such things but, it was reassuring to have them.
He also threw in a large black hoodie, which if things went well, he'd be needing later.
He didn't return to the lab until dark, his fingers crossed that Jinyoung didn't decide to stay late and work as he often did. He didn't really need to sneak into the lab since he had clearance to be in almost all parts of the facility. The main hurdle was sneaking Youngjae out of the lab with this new camera system in place.
Jaebeom only realized it just as he was walking toward the giant metal doors which Youngjae was being held behind; he hadn't taken into account the exact location of the new cameras. He glanced up at the ceiling, noticing a little black square up in the corner right above the door.
They were quite efficient with the installation, which only made carrying out his plan harder, but Jaebeom tried to focus more on seeing Youngjae than the annoying cameras. Besides, if he acted strange, whoever was watching from behind that lens would surely take note of it.
He entered the lab, heading straight through the tall isles toward where Youngjae's cage was kept while also examining the room for more cameras. There were some by each exit, and just a few scattered along the room's ceiling. There was definitely one hovering over Youngjae's cage; of course he was one of the most important things in this lab that needed surveillance.
Jaebeom felt his heart pounding in his chest as he neared the cage-- he hadn't seen Youngjae for days and it was already killing him.
Seeing the hybrid's large body resting in the middle of the metal box was relieving. Even though Youngjae was scheduled to leave tomorrow, Jaebeom briefly wondered if he was still there. It was good to see that he was; Jaebeom felt quite happy to be in the hybrid's presence again.
He noticed Youngjae was laying on a cushion-y mat now with a pillow and blankets, even a ball in the corner of his cage. Jinyoung had been taking good care of him; he'd really come around to empathizing a bit more with Youngjae's unique situation. It made Jaebeom smile.
He could see Youngjae's ear twitch as he stepped closer to the cage. The hybrid could surely sense his presence, but was still half asleep.
"Youngae." Jaebeom called in a loud whisper.
The sound of his voice made Youngjae's eyes bolt open. He blinked a few times, clearing the sleep from his eyes as he sat up and gazed in Jaebeom's direction.
"It's me. I came to see you." Jaebeom stated, finally a sense of recognition flashing through Youngjae's eyes.
"Jaebeom?" He muttered, his golden orbs lighting up for a brief moment. He crawled closer toward the bars, pausing a few feet away. His eyes darkened again, gaze falling to the metal floor. "Why are you here...?"
Jaebeom let out a soft sigh. The hopeful part of him thought that maybe Youngjae would be so happy to see him that he'd forget about all the anger he held toward him. But he was a bit too hopeful; of course Youngjae would still be angry, he felt betrayed by the person he's been led to trust the most. "Hey. I know you're mad at me. I said I'm sorry."
