Ace's POV
Time Skip

Ruby and Jaune were carry Qrow on a makeshift stretcher. Ren was in front of them on the path, leading the way while Nora and I brought up the rear. Qrow is groaning in pain and is a touch delirious, saying, "Tai. She's not... coming... Tai." Then Qrow coughs repeatedly and Jaune says, "He's getting worse." Ruby asked, "How much farther?" Nora replied, "We've gotta be close." I nodded in agreement and Ren said, "Without the map, there's no way of knowing. But I feel like we're close to something." Ren suddenly holstered StormFlower and Ruby said, "What is it?"
Directly ahead is a fork in the road with a signpost. They are coming from the direction of Higanbana. Kuchinashi and Mistral are to the right, where the land is mountainous. To the left is Kuroyuri, its name crossed out. The path that way remains low ground. Nora said, "Hey, hey! Mistral! We're on the right path! Oh..." Recognizing the name, I placed a hand on Nora's shoulder as Ruby said, "Does it say how close?!" Ren replied, "No. And it looks like the path takes us up the mountains." Jaune and Ruby set Qrow down and Jaune said, "Guys, I don't know if all of us can make that climb." Ruby looked at Qrow, concerned, before rushing forward to the signpost and asking, "Okay. Well, what about this place? Kuro... Kuroyuri? Can we get help there?"
Jaune approached and Ren said, "That village was destroyed years ago." Jaune said, "But if it takes us around the mountains, it's the best bet we've got." I looked at Ren as he replied sternly, "It will take too long." Ruby said, "The town would have had a doctor, right? Maybe we could scavenge for medicine!" Jaune agreed and said, "Right!" Ren closed his eyes, lowered his head, shook it, and said, "We're not going to find anything! We just have to press on!" There is just a brief moment of silence. Ruby watched him, clutching her hands before her chest. Then Jaune said, "Ren, why are you acting—" Nora cut Jaune off, came up beside Ren, and said, "We can split up." Ruby replied, "Huh?"
Nora placed her hand on Ren's shoulder and said, "Ren and I can cut through the mountains while you and Ruby take Qrow around through the village." I nodded and said, "And I'll go with them." Jaune replied, "No, we're supposed to stick together! We keep each other safe!" I said, "We don't have time for safe! If we make it to Mistral, we'll bring back help! If we don't, at least we'll have a better view of the land! Up there, we can see if there's somewhere else we can go!"
Ren turned and looked at Nora and I. We exchanged small, affectionate smiles. Still holding his gaze, Nora drops her hand from his shoulder. All of us remained silent, feeling the weight of the choice before us. Qrow coughed, making us all turn in concern and giving the motive to continue. Jaune looked at Ruby before turning to Nora, Ren, and I and saying, "Okay." Jaune stepped forward and he and Ren hugged each other. Then Jaune said, "Just take care of each other." Nora and I smiled and she said, "We always have."
